- HBO crime series *Task* has not yet been renewed for a season 2.
- Creator Brad Ingelsby is open to a second season, telling multiple outlets that there's more stories to tell in this world.
- All episodes of *Task* are now streaming on HBO Max.
HBO's *Task* wrapped with ample bloodshed and a little bit of hope for those who survived its knotty tale of double crosses.
Mark Ruffalo stars as Tom Brandis, an aging FBI agent, former Catholic priest, and head of a task force investigating a string of robberies committed against trap houses run by a motorcycle gang called the Dark Hearts. Tom Pelphrey costars as Robbie, the desperate garbageman behind the robberies. Robbie complicates his situation that much more after taking home Sam (Ben Doherty), a boy whose father is killed by Robbie's crew during a botched robbery.*****Task, *which was created by Brad Ingelsby (*Mare of Easttown*), ends on a note of finality, but that doesn't mean it's a one-and-done. So, will there be a *Task* season 2? Here's what we know.**

As of this writing, HBO has yet to announce a second season of *Task*.
Ingelsby, however, isn't just open to the idea, but angling for one, telling multiple publications that he'd be interested in another season.**

In the penultimate episode of *Task, *Robbie sacrifices himself to the Dark Hearts and his niece, Maeve (Emilia Jones) is left with a bag of money that could change her life, so long as the Dark Hearts don't realize she has it.
Unfortunately, they do. Jayson (Sam Keeley), the Dark Hearts honcho responsible for the death of her father, arrives at her home in the woods in search of the cash. He's got fresh blood on his hands, too, having just murdered his mentor, Perry (Jamie McShane), after learning that Perry had killed his girlfriend Eryn (Margarita Levieva) over her own betrayals.
As Tom and his team descend on the cabin, Jayson holds Maeve hostage. He's killed by a shot from Grasso (Fabien Frankel), the FBI agent who was secretly leaking intel to the Dark Hearts. After the murder of fellow agent Lizzie (Alison Oliver), who died due to his leaks, his conscience got the best of him.

Following the skirmish, Tom allows Maeve to keep the money, and we see her pack up her cousins and drive off into the horizon, bound for anywhere but there.
Sam, who's been in Tom's care since Maeve took him to the police in episode 5, is sent to a foster family. Though a heartbreaking decision, it's a sign of how Tom is attempting to rebuild his family, not build a new one.
As we learned earlier in the series, Tom and his family are reckoning with the potential release of his adopted son Ethan, who killed his wife Susan (Mireille Enos) amid a psychotic episode.
"He doesn't think it's fair to take Sam, and it's imperfect, which makes it that much more meaningful and moving, because we're always faced with decisions that never have a perfect or clear route," Ruffalo told ** about the finale. "To keep Sam would be more for his own comfort than it is for the wellbeing of Sam. He has to take care of the son that he has."**
What have the cast and crew said about Task season 2?

While a second season of *Task* hasn't been announced, Ingelsby has said in multiple interviews that he'd be keen to make a second season.
"If viewers have an appetite for more *Task*, I would absolutely come back," he told the *New York Times, *adding that its Delaware County setting on the border of Philadelphia is key to his interest. "I want to do it as a love letter to the area, not exploiting it in any way. Because I live here. I want to be able to walk around and not have people throw stuff at me or say, 'You really did us dirty.'"
Speaking with the *Hollywood Reporter*, he even teased a potential crossover between *Task* and his previous HBO hit, *Mare of Easttown*, which was also set in the area. "I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County," he said. "They exist in the same world, so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Mare walked into a Wawa that Tom was in. I don't have a story in mind that's a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting."
Ruffalo also seemed open to revisiting the character in a chat with *Deadline*, sharing his opinion that HBO boss Casey Bloys "would love" a second season.
"We had such a good time. [Mark] is the best to have on set and I love working with this guy," Ingelsby said.**
