Sigourney Weaver is offering a glimpse into her time on The Mandalorian & Grogu set.

While speaking at New York Comic-Con's Alien and Beyond panel on Oct. 10, the actress opened up about getting to know The Mandalorian and the Star Wars universe before accepting a role on the franchise's newest movie. Weaver, 76, appears as Colonel Ward in the upcoming 2026 film The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Weaver said The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau reached out to her about the role. As a "great admirer" of the 58-year-old director, Weaver took his suggestion to watch the show and quickly found things to love about it.

"I was, of course, amazed by it and fell in love with it, and Pedro [Pascal] and Grogu," Weaver said. Pascal, 50, plays bounty hunter Din Djarin, who finds and ends up taking care of Grogu, also colloquially known as Baby Yoda.

"Also I love how the Star Wars universe has — it's not trying to pay off each movie with the whole backlog of movies. It's now individual stories set in the same universe," the Alien star noted. Weaver then shared that The Mandalorian & Grogu is set on the "outer ring" of that universe, and will pick up after the third season of The Mandalorian Disney+ series.

An official synopsis of the film says that "the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu."

The movie's trailer, recently released by Disney and Lucasfilm on Sept. 22, sees Weaver briefly appear as Colonel Ward, a leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers and a former pilot for the Rebel Alliance.

"I was only on the set for a few days, but I was surrounded by all kinds of different creatures," Weaver recalled. "I got a drink from someone with a very different kind of head."

Weaver added that she's the "luckiest girl in the world" because she got to spend quality time with Pascal and Grogu on set.

The Mandalorian & Grogu cast also includes Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne. Favreau, who helmed the cinematic installment, co-wrote the upcoming film with Dave Filoni.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," Favreau said in a statement. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to debut in theaters on May 22, 2026.
