Emma Stone as Michelle in 'Bugonia'
Dying to see what weirdness Emma Stone has in store with Bugonia? Just shave your head to find out.
The Yorgos Lanthimos-directed film is holding a special early screening on Monday in Los Angeles, with just one requirement: a bald head. Anyone who wants to enter the auditorium to see the latest collab between the acclaimed filmmaker and Oscar-winning actress must already be smooth up top, or willing to have an on-site barber shave their head at the door.
"Are you bald, or willing to shave your head?," reads the event posting from DoLA. "On Monday, 10/20, head to [The Culver Theater] for a FREE advanced screening of Bugonia - the new @focusfeatures fever dream from Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons."
The post adds that for interested attendees with hair, a barber will be at the theater from 6 p.m. to "shave it all off." It then clarifies, "This is real. And yes, part of it will be filmed."

The screening will take place at LA's Culver Theater and requires an RSVP, as tickets are first-come, first-served. Also, because the film is rated R, it is an 18 and over-only event.
The hairless requirement is an homage to Stone's character in the film, a high-powered CEO of a pharmacy company who ends up kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists (Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis) who believe she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Per the trailer, the duo decide that her hair must go and end up shaving it off — a drastic change that Stone embraced, cutting off her naturally blond locks for the role.
The Bugonia star has made it clear that she enjoyed the shaved look, telling Vogue there's "no better feeling in the world."
She added, "The first shower when you've shaved your head? Oh my God, it's amazing."
Stone also shared that the haircut came with big emotions, as it reminded her of mother, Krista Stone, losing her hair when she was treated for breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2008; that said, they weren't comparable experiences in Stone's eyes.
"She actually did something brave," Stone recounted thinking. "I'm just shaving my head."

Bugonia marks the fourth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, who have previously joined forces for 2018's The Favourite, 2023's Poor Things, and 2024's Kinds of Kindness. Their latest has enjoyed a thorough festival run, premiering at the Venice International Film Festival in August before playing at festivals including Telluride, San Sebastián, AFI, Busan, and more.
Bugonia begins its special limited engagement on Oct. 24, followed by a wide expansion on Oct. 31.
