Well, the rest of the NFL had its chance to keep Kansas City down.
The Chiefs were already trending in the right direction after a rocky start, and they now have wide receiver Rashee Rice back in the lineup following a six-game suspension. With the ability to distribute the ball to an ever-widening cadre of receivers, Patrick Mahomes is as dangerous as ever. And with a smothering defense finding its feet, the Chiefs are now a clear and present January (and perhaps February) threat across the NFL.
Kansas City beat Las Vegas on Sunday in one of the most thorough beatdowns you'll ever see, a 31-0 devastation so thorough that Patrick Mahomes was pulled in the third quarter, and the Chiefs went into victory formation with 2 1/2 minutes remaining in the game. Sunday marked Andy Reid's first regular-season shutout in his career, and the Chiefs' first shutout since 2011. It was also the Chiefs' biggest shutout of the rival Raiders in team history.
In his first game action in more than a year, Rice paid immediate dividends, scoring a touchdown on the Chiefs' first drive Sunday:

Just before the end of the first half, Rice added another touchdown to extend the Chiefs' lead to 21-0:

Mahomes threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns in posting a 31-0 lead; the game was so out of reach so fast that Mahomes was lifted in the third quarter for Gardner Minshew.
Seemingly the entire Chiefs roster enjoyed a solid statistical afternoon on Sunday. Isaiah Pacheco rushed 15 times for 57 yards. Brashard Smith had 39 yards on the ground and 42 in the air. Travis Kelce, Tyquan Thornton, Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster all topped 30 yards receiving. Rice, who finished with 42 yards on seven receptions, hasn't played since Week 4 of last season, when he collided with Patrick Mahomes, suffered a ligament injury and missed the rest of the year.
Las Vegas, meanwhile, was beyond miserable. The Raiders totaled just 93 total yards of offense, with only 29 plays and a mere three first downs. Three. The Chiefs were probably unbeatable Sunday against nearly anyone, but the Raiders didn't even put up a fight.
Rice missed the first six games of the 2025 season due to a suspension for legal issues stemming from a high-speed car collision in March 2024. Rice was driving a Lamborghini at high speed in Dallas, struck a retaining wall and set off a multi-car collision that caused several injuries. Rice later pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies and settled with other victims of the wreck.

Without Rice in the lineup, Kansas City ranks eighth overall in passing yards per game this season while posting a 3-3 record. After losing their first two games, the Chiefs are only one random game-winning Trevor Lawrence scramble from a 4-0 run, and Rice's return should only bolster their chances in a decimated AFC.
In the weeks ahead, Kansas City faces Washington and Buffalo before its bye, followed by Denver and Indianapolis. That's a rough stretch, but if any team is prepared to handle it, it's Kansas City.
