Having a famous parent doesn't just come with benefits — it also has a few risks.
Mary Steenburgen's son, filmmaker and fellow actor Charlie McDowell, learned this the hard way. On Wednesday's episode of *Where Everybody Knows Your Name*, Steenburgen's husband Ted Danson recounted the mildly traumatic incident.
"Mary did a film, *Melvin and Howard*, and she won the Academy Award for it," Danson began, explaining that the actress starred as a dancer. "And she has a scene where she's buck naked — it's brilliant and it's wonderful. Charlie, her son, when he was 15 maybe, he and his buddies are just [on a] Friday night bored and flipping around."
He continued, "[Charlie] goes out to go get a sandwich and comes back into the room. His friend had innocently landed on that scene."

Needless to say, McDowell did not respond well to seeing his mother dancing naked on his friend's TV, and immediately unleashed those feelings on his pal.
"Charlie walked back in and just reamed him out," Danson shared. "He was so angry: 'That's my mom. What are you doing?!'"
McDowell isn't the only one doing his best to avoid scandalous scenes involving his loved ones. Danson's guest on the recent pod was Kathryn Hahn, who shared that her own teenage son is still avoiding her era of raunchy comedies.
"He certainly can't see any of the movies from that particular chapter," Hahn shared. "He would be devastatingly embarrassed."

Mary Steenburgen assumed future husband Ted Danson was 'slick' like his 'Cheers' character
She explained that while he's definitely old enough to see R-rated content — and has probably "seen far worse" than she realizes — it would be totally different to see his mom in such situations.
"Just the thought of his mom in a movie like that or some of the other things I've done is understandably a nightmare," she continued, referencing her risqué *Step Brothers *scene. "The first time I showed it to [my kids], my husband and I fast-forwarded so much of it that I think they saw a 17-minute movie."

Danson had his own tale to share, recalling his mother's reaction to his role in Lawrence Kasdan's 1981 erotic thriller, *Body Heat*.
Holding his hands in front of his eyes, Danson said, "That's how my mother watched *Body Heat.* I wasn't with her, but people told me she had her hands in front of her eyes the entire time."
