Sigourney Weaver looked back on the making of *Aliens* during a Friday New York Comic Con panel, a conversation that covered the on-set tension between the film crew and director James Cameron. **
The film's Pinewood Studios crew infamously clashed with Cameron on that 1986 sci-fi project, which saw the actress reprise her role as Ellen Ripley from the Ridley Scott original.**
"What I remember is that they really loved Ridley, and they wanted Ridley to be directing this second film," Weaver explained. "They didn't know who Jim Cameron was. I didn't really know who he was. I just thought he wrote a great script."

The crew made their feelings known. During the panel, Weaver recalled how Cameron "kept setting up screenings" only for none of the crew to turn up in the end.
"So they did have an attitude," she said. "And it did take a while [for them to get along], actually."
Weaver noted that she helped bridge the divide between both parties by putting in a good word about Cameron with the crew. "I remember because I loved Jim right away, it was very easy for me to go around and go, 'Listen, I love Ridley too, but this guy wrote this and this film *Terminator*, and he knows what he's doing. He's a natural,'" she recalled.

Thankfully, Weaver said Cameron slowly but surely impressed the crew with his filmmaking. "And by the end, of course, they were devoted," she concluded. **
Cameron famously described the *Aliens* crew as "lazy, insolent, and arrogant" in Rebecca Keegan's 2009 novel *The Futurist: The Life and Films of James Cameron.* "There were a few bright lights amongst the younger art department people," he told the author (per Slash Film). "But for the most part, we despised them and they despised us."**
In the book, Keegan claimed that Cameron and the crew fought over having to take tea breaks, Cameron's limited directing experience, and the dismissal of the film's first assistant director, Derek Cracknell.

When filming wrapped, Cameron reportedly gave another speech to the crew in which he acknowledged that "this has been a long and difficult shoot, fraught by many problems."

He continued, "But the one thing that kept me going, through it all, was the certain knowledge that one day I would drive out the gate of Pinewood and never come back, and that you sorry bastards would still be here."
While he may not have ended up on great terms with the Pinewood crew, Cameron and Weaver have maintained a strong working relationship over the last four decades. **
Weaver would go on to work with the director on the *Avatar* films, starring as Dr. Grace Augustine in the 2009 film and as Kiri in its 2022 sequel. She is also set to star in its upcoming third installment, *Avatar: Fire and Ash*.
