On the verge of moving to 0-7, the New York Jets are trying something new. With the Jets down 13-3 against the Carolina Panthers at halftime, quarterback Justin Fields has been benched and replaced by Tyrod Taylor.

Taylor, a career backup who is in his second year with the Jets, did not successfully capitalize on his first big opportunity, as New York was forced to punt after six plays.

Fields struggled in the first half of the matchup, throwing 6-of-12 for only 46 yards. He failed to get the Jets into the end zone, instead settling for a field goal, three punts and a turnover on downs early in the first quarter.

Fields also took three sacks in the first half as the Jets' offensive line problems continue to show. Fields is the second most-sacked quarterback in the NFL, with 19 sacks heading into Sunday's game; the only quarterback with more is Tennessee Titans rookie Cam Ward, who has played one more game than Fields.

Considering that the Jets are the only NFL team still without a win, it's a fair move for head coach Aaron Glenn to try something new in a winnable game against a pretty mediocre Panthers team. Taylor started in the Jets' narrow Week 3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with Fields out with a concussion. During that outing, Taylor threw 26-of-36 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
