Sean "Diddy" Combs is appealing his conviction and 50-month prison sentence in his federal sex-crimes case.

Three months after the verdict was delivered in his two-month trial and two weeks after his sentencing, Combs' legal team filed a notice of appeal in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Oct. 20, according to a document obtained by USA TODAY.

The details of the music mogul's appeal will be submitted to the court at a later date. USA TODAY has reached out to Combs' representatives for comment.

On July 2, a 12-person jury handed down a split verdict that acquitted him of the most serious charges: racketeering and sex trafficking. The 55-year-old was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Three months later, on Oct. 3, a stoic Combs learned in court that he would be incarcerated for around three more years. Though the federal detention center where he will be relocated has not been determined, he has been behind bars at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center since his September 2024 arrest.

More than 30 people, from government agents to ex-girlfriends, sex workers and hotel employees, took the stand in Manhattan over the course of seven weeks as prosecutors presented their case that Combs allegedly led a "criminal enterprise" that operated on sex trafficking, kidnapping, drug offenses and forced labor, among other crimes.

Major moments from the trial have included singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura Fine, Combs' former girlfriend, providing emotional testimony about his alleged abuse and rapper Kid Cudi, who was once romantically involved with Ventura Fine, alleging the music mogul broke into his home.

Janice Combs, mother of Sean "Diddy" Combs, arrives at court in New York City for the sentencing hearing for Sean "Diddy" Combs, after the music mogul was convicted on charges of transportation to engage in prostitution.U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian is expected to issue a ruling on Combs' prison sentence on Oct. 3, 2025, in Manhattan court after attorneys for the disgraced hip-hop mogul and United States prosecutors weigh in on the time he should serve.

Combs, who'd pleaded not guilty to his criminal charges before his trial, expressed regret ahead of his sentencing in a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, writing, in part, "I take full responsibility and accountability for my past wrongs."

During his court appearance on Oct. 3, he apologized to both Ventura Fine and his former partner "Jane," who'd both testified about experiencing years of abuse and manipulation from Combs.

He said, "I want to personally apologize again to Cassie Ventura for any harm or hurt that I caused to her, emotionally or physically. My actions were disgusting, shameful and sick."
