John Stamos is defending his former *Full House* costar Lori Loughlin for her part in the 2019 college admissions scandal, blaming her ex-husband Mossimo Giannulli.

"She didn't deserve to be dragged through that," Stamos said Monday on the *Good Guys* podcast hosted by Josh Peck and Ben Soffer.

Both Loughlin and Giannulli, parents to now adult daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella "Bella" Rose, were arrested in 2019, following an investigation by the FBI that determined they had paid $500,000 to make their daughters pass as recruits for the crew team at the University of Southern California, although neither of them participated in the sport. They were among dozens of people charged in the scandal.**

In May 2020, Loughlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. She was ultimately sentenced to two months in prison, two years of supervised release, a $150,000 fine, and 100 hours of community service.**

"Forty years I've known her," Stamos said of Loughlin. "You know, you can see through people after a few years. This woman's a saint."

Stamos and Loughlin played Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky on the popular ABC sitcom, which she joined in the second season, from 1988 to 1995. Each also made more than a dozen appearances on the sequel series *Fuller House*, which aired on Netflix for five seasons, between 2016 and 2020.

The cast has remained famously close over the years, notably coming together to pay tribute to the late Bob Saget, who played core character Danny Tanner, following his death in 2022. Stamos has defended Loughlin in the past, too, insisting that "she wasn't really the architect of any of it," in a November 2022 appearance on the *Armchair Expert* podcast.

On Monday, Stamos explained that he'd learned about the admissions scandal through a friend before it was widely known. When he called Loughlin about it, he recalled that she allegedly said, "Mossimo handles all that stuff."

According to TMZ, the outlet says it reached out to Giannulli regarding Stamos' remarks, but he had no comment.

Stamos also shared during his *Good Guys* appearance that Loughlin's recent breakup came as a surprise to him.

"All of a sudden they're split up, and I know she's she's just devastated. And for a girl who has lived her life really well, a good person, a good mother, a good wife," Stamos said. "I know all this for a fact. And to be thrown into now this separation and exploding, blowing up her family this way. And I just hate to see her go through this, I really do."**

A rep for the actress confirmed the split, after the two had been married since 1997.**

"I'm just heartbroken for her right now," Stamos added. "All I'm going to say is that I've really tried to be there for her during this time."

He noted that Loughlin lives in his neighborhood, so they've been able to visit each other at their homes.
