The Denver Nuggets have extended Christian Braun ahead of the final year on his rookie contract. On Monday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the 2023 NBA champions have signed Braun to a five-year, $125 million deal.
After getting drafted with the 21st pick in 2022, the former Kansas star signed a rookie deal with Denver worth $13.7 million, which included a player option in each of the last two seasons. ESPN's Bobby Marks initially projected that the 24-year-old would land a new deal that pays him $30 million annually — an estimate this contract has reportedly fallen short of.
Braun is coming off his best season with the Nuggets, averaging 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Braun made 77 starts in 79 appearances as the Nuggets finished fourth in the Western Conference with a 50-32 record.
He also became crucial in Denver's postseason run, starting in all 12 playoff games and averaging 12.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. The Nuggets survived a seven-game series with the LA Clippers in the first round before falling to the eventual champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in another seven-game barnburner.
The Nuggets are entering their first full season since firing Michael Malone with three games left in their 2024-25 campaign. They have since hired David Adelman to run the clipboard.
Apart from Brown's signing, Denver's offseason is highlighted by trading Michael Porter Jr. to Brooklyn for Cam Johnson and a future first-rounder. They also dealt Dario Saric to the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas.
The Nuggets welcomed Bruce Brown back to the team and signed free agent Tim Hardaway Jr. as they look to secure their second NBA title.
