Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the New York Jets and is expected to miss the team's Week 8 game at home against the Buffalo Bills, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Young left the game limping to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium.

Veteran backup quarterback Andy Dalton came in to finish the game, completing 4 of 7 passes for 60 yards in the victory. It's Carolina's fourth win of the season, and it moved the team above .500 to 4-3. After starting the year 1-3, the Panthers have won three in a row and are a game over .500 for the first time this season.

Before he was forced to leave the game, Young had completed 15 of 25 pass attempts for 138 yards and a touchdown. He avoided costly mistakes and played a fairly efficient game against the Jets. That's been a trend of late for Young, who'd played very well the past couple of weeks.

Against Dallas in Week 6, Young and the Panthers beat the Cowboys, 30-27, behind his three touchdowns and 199 passing yards. Rico Dowdle also did his part against his former team by contributing 183 yards on the ground.

In Week 5, Carolina won another close won over Miami, 27-24, at home. Young completed 19 of 30 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Despite losing a fumble and throwing an interception, the Panthers managed to overcome that on the back of Dowdle's 206 rushing yards.

At 4-3, Carolina currently sits at ninth place within the NFC, firmly in the playoff hunt. The Panthers haven't made a postseason appearance since a 2017-18 wild-card loss to the New Orleans Saints. It's still early in the season, but Young finally looked to be gaining confidence in running this offense, so the ankle injury couldn't have come at a worse time.

So far this season, Young has completed 61.6 percent of his passes (career-high) for 1,288 yards, 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He's averaging 184 yards passing per game which is also a career-high.

The Panthers will take on the Buffalo Bills in Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
