Slater Josiah Vance, Honoree Angela Bassett, Bronwyn Golden Vance, and Courtney B. Vance attend the 14th Annual Governors Awards on January 09, 2024 in Hollywood, California.
9-1-1 explores the work and personal lives of Los Angeles' first responders, including their roles as parents.
Many of the series' stars, including Angela Bassett and Jennifer Love Hewitt, are parents on the ABC drama and in real life, which can be both challenging and rewarding.
Bassett, who stars as Sgt. Athena Grant, opened up to PEOPLE in February 2024 about feeling guilty over the long hours she spends on set away from her kids.
"I hope that what will come out of that is that they see a mama, a woman, a Black woman achieving her dreams, having success," she shared. "They'll see that hard work pays off. And they'll be about that life for themselves."
She added, "One of the things that always that I say to myself and to my kids is, 'Find the good and praise it.' "
Here's everything to know about the real-life kids of the 9-1-1 cast.

Slater Josiah Vance, Bronwyn Golden Vance, Angela Bassett, and Courtney B. Vance attend the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on March 12, 2023 in Beverly Hills, California.
On 9-1-1, Bassett's character Sgt. Athena Grant is a mother to daughter May and son Harry with ex-husband Michael, but in real life she also shares two kids with her husband, Courtney B. Vance.
After seven years of IVF, the couple welcomed fraternal twins Bronwyn Golden and Slater Josiah on Jan. 27, 2006, via surrogate.
Bassett told Vulture in 2019 that from a young age, Bronwyn had a tendency to copy her mom.
"I'm just speaking from my experience, but my daughter, from the time she was a little one, was always sort of looking to me for the example of what to do and how to be," the Black Panther star shared.
She continued, "I have twins, and if I told her brother something like, 'Slater, put that down. Slater, don't stand on that. Slater —' she would be my little copy. If he would do something, she would say, 'Slater, put that down! Slater, don't stand on that!' She was my little copycat!"
Although Bassett and Vance have both found success in acting, the actress shared in 2021 that she was gently pushing her teens toward music, especially after the release of her movie Soul.
"They both play the piano and rap and play guitar, so they have a little musical interest that I drill into them, that I insist upon!" she told E! on the 2021 Golden Globes red carpet.
She added, "But I thought maybe they wouldn't get into it because it's jazz ... but surprisingly they loved it. They got a lot of the themes, a lot of the ideas from it and really appreciated it."
Slater released his first album, "Journey 2 Forever," in 2021, followed by an EP titled "Holehearted" the following year.

Hewitt's character Maddie Han is balancing motherhood and her role as a 9-1-1 dispatcher on the series. In real life, she's a mother to three kids with husband Brian Hallisay.
The couple's first child, daughter Autumn James, was born on Nov. 26, 2013. Less than two years later, son Atticus James arrived on June 24, 2015.
In September 2021, they welcomed son Aidan James. During part of Hewitt's real-life pregnancy, she was also pregnant on-screen.
Hewitt and Hallisay revealed exclusively to PEOPLE in May 2021 that they were expecting their third child, one month after Maddie and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) became first-time parents on 9-1-1 during season 4.
The actress explained that she was "proud" of herself for keeping her pregnancy under wraps, even while simulating Maddie's "intense" labor and birth.
"Because my kids are a little bit older, it was a good reminder of being back in that space again. And [costar Kenneth Choi] was like, 'See? Playing pregnant got you pregnant!' I'm like, 'Yeah, I guess so,' " she shared. "The craziest, most surreal moment was having to give birth while being pregnant. That was very interesting."
After Aidan's arrival, Maddie's journey with postpartum depression was explored upon Hewitt's return to the series, which she had a personal connection to.
"I was really impressed and excited that the show decided to go very deep into postpartum depression," she shared in an exclusive sneak peek video. "I think it's super important."
She continued, "I definitely personally had my worst postpartum after this pregnancy, so to come back so soon after that and be able to give those real things to Maddie has been very cathartic for me and really nice to be able to represent that for all the women out there."
Hewitt and Hallisay have kept their kids out of the spotlight over the years, but offered a glimpse of their faces for the first time on the cover of her 2024 memoir, Inheriting Magic.

Ryan Guzman attends the Premiere of "Tron: Ares" on October 06, 2025 in Hollywood, California ; Ryan Guzman and Chrysti Ane's two kids.
Before becoming a real-life dad to two children of his own, Ryan Guzman played a parent on-screen as Eddie Diaz on 9-1-1.
"Playing a father before I was a father, it was incredible," he told PEOPLE in March 2024.
He added, "And there's a moment I always go to where I was walking him to school. I could do that all day. I started almost tearing up every single take because I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to walk my own son."
Guzman and his then-fiancée Chrysti Ane welcomed their son Mateo on Jan. 24, 2019, following their pregnancy announcement in September 2018.
After keeping the entire pregnancy under wraps, their second child, daughter Genevieve "Gigi" Valentina, was born on Jan. 7, 2021.
"... Ry and I decided to be a little selfish this time around and keep this journey between us. I'm so happy we did that. It was so special," the mother of two captioned a since-deleted post on Instagram.
The couple parted ways in 2023 after five years together.

Peter Krause visits SiriusXM Studios on October 02, 2024 in New York City.
Capt. Bobby Nash left behind wife Athena Grant and step-children May and Harry after his shocking death during season 8 of 9-1-1. In real life, Krause is a dad to his son.
Krause and his girlfriend at the time, Christine King, welcomed Roman on Nov. 20, 2001.
While the former couple have largely kept Roman out of the spotlight, Krause opened up to TV Guide in 2015 about balancing his on-screen work with being a parent in real life.
"Parenthood allowed me to spend time with him on a weekly basis, but also gave me a big chunk of time in the spring to assistant-coach his baseball team and I got to be more involved with him because of the show," he said.
Krause added, "I have a great appetite as an actor for more to do, but I try to balance my professional life with my real parenthood life and this show provided that."
Being on the set of Parenthood also brought him and costar Lauren Graham together. Although their relationship ended in 2021 after 11 years, the Gilmore Girls star wrote about Roman in her 2022 book, Have I Told You This Already? Stories I Don't Want to Forget to Remember, after her split from Krause.
"I've never been a mom, but I have loved a child who lived in my house for a long time," Graham wrote in her book, adding that she hopes Roman will "be a part of the rest of [her] life."
