When it comes to curating the perfect "Ralph Lauren Christmas" aesthetic during the holidays, there are strict rules one must follow, according to a designer who used to work with the brand.

Molly Moorkamp outlined the guidelines that she said might "offend some people" in an Oct. 16 TikTok, which has received over two million views. Before getting into the design do's and don'ts, she listed her credentials to her followers, noting that she "designed dresses at Ralph Lauren in New York for a really long time" before launching her own brand.

"Christmas, Ralph Lauren style. Let's offend some people," she begins, before adding, "and if you don't like these rules, you really would not have liked working at Ralph Lauren. That's why everything looks so good, because everything is so completely concise."

Her first rule is that "bright green garland of any kind" is a "no" in her book, whereas classic plaid patterns that are a Ralph Lauren staple — from "traditional Christmas plaid" to "Black Watch" plaid, she says — are a must, however they come with more rules.

"Do not mix those plaids, okay? You're not gonna see those in the same room. Each room is a different plaid, you do not mix those plaids. They don't play together," Moorkamp explains.

She then gets into the type of presents under the tree should be on display, leading to one controversial take.

"We are not letting people bring their own wrapping paper and put presents under your tree," she explains, before adding, "No gift bags. If someone brings a gift bag over to your house, and you feel like you have to display it, it goes behind the tree."

She notes that the wrapping paper needs to be "concise and consistent" with the "same ribbon color" topping off "every single package."

A few of her other rules include "no overhead light anywhere" and "no holiday signage" whatsoever.

"No signage. That is not a Ralph Lauren Christmas. If you want a Ralph Lauren Christmas, we're speaking, 'Merry Christmas.' We are speaking, 'Ho, ho, ho.' We're not printing it on a sign. We're not looking at it on a wall. We're speaking."

She concludes the video by noting how assembling the rules was a lot "fun" for her and asked her followers if any of these rules "horrified" them.

In the comments, most expressed that a "Ralph Lauren Christmas" is what they're trying to achieve this year, while others thought the rules went a little too far.

"I've never felt more seen about my wrapping paper standards," one person wrote. "There is a theme, no bags, no tags on the front, and each present has a bow. If the wrapping paper has a design, the bow is solid. Bow has a design, paper is solid."

Another asked Moorkamp to create a series and share more tips: "I'm not horrified enough... keep going!!! I want to know!!

A different user agreed, "Signage is the equivalent of a 'live laugh love' shirt."

On the other hand, one person wrote, "Oh I'm so glad I'm not obsessed with RL Christmas. I'm here for early 2000's nostalgic fluorescent lighting christmas."

"You lost me at the no gift bags," another added, followed by a different user who said, "So many 'rules' for no reason."
