Kelly Clarkson is sharing that she's just trying to do her best when it comes to parenting her two kids
The singer and talk show host explained that she's trying to "do her best" to limit the need for her daughter to go to therapy

Kelly Clarkson is just trying to do her best when it comes to parenting her two kids.
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the singer and host of the Kelly Clarkson Show, 43, spoke with actress Mariska Hargitay about a piece of wisdom she's been trying to give her 11-year-old daughter, River Rose. as she gets older.
"I look at my daughter constantly and I'm just like, 'Look, I'm try my best,' " said Clarkson. "I know you're gonna end up in therapy one day. I don't know what for, but I'm trying my best to limit it. Just like, help out."
The mom of two went on to say that as kids get older, they start to understand the choices that their parents made.

"It is interesting, too. As we get older, you understand even like if they might have been not great decisions for you," said Clarkson. "You understand them in a different light, and you become a parent. You have a little bit more empathy than you might have had in your 20s."
Clarkson shares her daughter and son Remington "Remy," 9, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 48, who died this past summer.

After news broke of Blackstock's death in August, a source told PEOPLE that Clarkson was "heartbroken" for their two kids.
"Kelly and Brandon had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them," the source said. "Her kids are her entire world, and she's staying strong for their sake."
Another source told PEOPLE that the "Behind These Hazel Eyes" singer was "devastated" for her kids as Blackstock privately faced cancer over the last three years. "When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake," the source said.

"Kelly has always tried to keep things classy," the source continued. "It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She's been devastated for the kids."
In the past, Clarkson has shared that she prefers to be open and honest with her children. In a September 2022 cover story with Variety, she said she's often vulnerable with them, especially when it comes to discussing her divorce.
"I think the most important thing I've learned in therapy, especially through this divorce, is 'Don't hide everything from your kids,' " she said at the time. "Obviously, don't talk about stuff that you shouldn't talk about, but it's okay if they see you cry, or it's okay if they see you've had a bad day."
"You start to feel that kind of shame, like, 'I've got to put my best foot forward as a mom because I don't want them to be affected,' " Clarkson continued. "But then you allow your kids to express empathy, and they learn how to say, 'Oh, man, I'm sorry you had a hard day.' "
