Drew Barrymore, Ross Mathews, Sunny Anderson, and the entire *Drew Barrymore Show *audience banded together to help a two-time breast cancer survivor win a trip to Italy on Thursday.

During the episode, Mathews revealed that they would be hosting a miniature spelling bee in honor of National Dictionary Day. He then welcomed Janell Marie to the show and explained the rules. **

"Since Drew loves pasta, I'm gonna give you a pasta shape that you have to spell," he said. "If you guess it correctly, you're gonna win a prize. And it's a good one, are you ready for this? It's a 15-day grand tour of Italy for two thanks to our friends at EF Go Ahead Tours."

Mathews proceeded to reveal that the word Janell would have to correctly spell to win the trip was conchiglie, which is a seashell-shaped type of pasta. "Now, I tried to spell this earlier and I did not get it right," Barrymore warned. Anderson added, "Neither did I." **

The pair went on to ask if anyone in the audience could offer Janell any pointers before selecting a woman in a back row. "There's an 'h' somewhere?" she hinted. **

Anderson also used a bit of her music knowledge to help Janell out, too. "Lil Wayne once said he moves silent like the Gs," she said, referencing the rapper's 2011 song, "6 Foot 7 Foot." She added, "So there's a silent 'g' in there maybe, I don't know."

Tony Danza addresses Valerie Bertinelli's claim that he never called after leaving her number

Tony Danza attends the "Re-Election" New York Premiere at Regal Union Square on October 09, 2025 in New York City, Valerie Bertinelli attends the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Creative Arts & Lifestyle Awards at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Los Angeles on June 08, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

The trio then encouraged Janell to sound her way through the word, cheering and applauding with every section of it that she got right. When they got to the silent 'g' in the word, Mathews interjected, "Remember there's something about a 'g' in there, and something crazy and something silent in there!"

Janell went on to successfully spell conchiglie, sending Mathews, Anderson, and Barrymore rocketing out of their seats as they screamed, applauded, and sprinted over from the stage to hug her.

"Thank you, everyone, thank you!" Barrymore said, pointing out the others in the audience who helped Janell. "And by the way, it is breast cancer awareness month, and do I understand this correctly that you are a breast cancer survivor?"**

To which Janell responded, "*Two-time* breast cancer survivor. How awesome is that? I feel so blessed."

An excited Anderson replied, "You've gotta take some PTO, baby!"

Barrymore has spoken often about the importance of getting regularly screened for breast cancer on her talk show, and even got a mammogram on-air in order to help others feel more comfortable with the process.

She also dedicated an episode of her show to Mathews' mom, Gay, who died of breast cancer, in October 2023. **

"It was so heartbreaking, but it also taught me so much about strength and family and love," Mathews said of his mother's passing at the time. "How strong she was and how much I loved her and still do. It was such a gift to have that time."**
