Washington Commanders' second-year starting quarterback Jayden Daniels has suffered a low-grade hamstring strain and has reportedly been ruled out for the team's Week 8 Monday Night Football matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Daniels suffered the strain in Sunday's 44-22 loss to Dallas and was replaced by veteran backup quarterback Marcus Mariota. It has also been reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that Mariota will start for Washington on MNF in Kansas City. This would be Mariota's third start of the season in place of Daniels.

Daniels missed two games earlier in the season due to a left knee injury suffered in the team's Week 2 loss to Green Bay. Sunday's loss to division rival Dallas dropped Washington to 3-4 and third place in the NFC East. Daniels is 2-3 in his starts this season and is completing just 61 percent of his passes, but with 8 touchdowns and only 1 interception.
Last season, Daniels burst onto the scene, winning Rookie of the Year honors and being named to his first Pro Bowl, all while leading the Commanders to 12 wins and an NFC championship game appearance. His sophomore year hasn't gotten off to quite the beginning as Daniels started all 17 games in 2024. If Daniels doesn't play in Week 8, it'll already be the third game he's missed in the first half of this season.
Before leaving Sunday's game against the Cowboys in the third quarter with the hamstring injury, Daniels had completed 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. He'd also rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown, attempting to keep Washington in the game. Washington is 1-1 without Daniels and will need to find a way to get back on track against the surging Chiefs in Week 8.
