Being a professional on Dancing With the Stars isn't just about mastering choreography — it's about mastering patience. Pro dancerDaniella Karagach recently opened up about what it takes to help celebrity contestants learn ballroom from scratch, revealing that teaching on the show is as much about psychology as it is about rhythm.
"It takes a lot of patience and understanding of how to have them develop," Karagach, 32, told Danielle Fishel on her podcast, Danielle With the Stars.
"I've been doing this for so long — I was teaching adults and kids for 10 years before the show, so I have a certain method that I go by."
Karagach said ballroom is rooted in structure and technique. For her, there's a "fundamental book" that outlines the basics of the dance styles. That foundation is what helps her break things down for celebrities who have never danced before. Still, the process is never simple.
"It's definitely hard because new people come in every season and have new ways of learning," she shared. "One person comes in and takes critique great, another person can't have any critique — and you're finding ways to not only be a teacher but be a therapist."
Her current celebrity partner, Dylan Efron, is one of the easiest Karagach has ever worked with.
"[Dylan is] one of the easiest people I've ever dealt with on the show," she added. "He wants to do this to his best ability — and that's all I could ask for."
Efron, 33, praised his pro partner in return.
"The first few days, it felt like we'd never get there," he said. "She had faith in me before I had faith in me."
He added that Karagach's dedication gives him confidence: "I know she's going to work her a-- off until the dance is in a good spot."
Karagach says Efron's commitment makes her job easy and their results in the ballroom speak for themselves.
