Former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was excused from attending a pretrial hearing in Indiana on Wednesday due to his injuries from a stabbing incident in October. Sanchez's attorney told a Marion County judge the quarterback was "still recovering" from the altercation, according to TMZ.

The pretrial hearing was set to determine future court dates for Sanchez after he was charged with felony battery after allegedly assaulting a truck driver in Indianapolis in October. Sanchez was in town to call the Indianapolis Colts' Week 5 game against the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox Sports.

After Judge James B. Osborn set dates, attorney Tim Delaney, one of Sanchez's representatives, was asked if there was anything he wanted to address. Delaney thanked the judge for allowing Sanchez to miss the pretrial hearing, and noted that the quarterback was still in recovery.

"Thank you for allowing our client to be excused from today's hearing. He's still recovering from the injuries he sustained and the medical intervention. So, that process is ongoing and may impact some of the dates, but right now we'll note those dates for our calendars."

The man whom Sanchez allegedly attacked stabbed the quarterback multiple times during the altercation. The man reportedly used pepper spray on Sanchez first. When the former quarterback shrugged it off, the man, fearing for his life, pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez. Following the incident, both the truck driver and Sanchez were hospitalized for their injuries.

Sanchez was released from the hospital in mid-October, and appeared at Marion County Jail to be fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken. Sanchez walked into the jail gingerly. His right arm was spotted in a sling. Security footage appeared to indicate Sanchez was stabbed on his right side in the altercation. In his first public comments since his arrest, Sanchez said he was "focused on the recovery" and said it would be a "long process."

Sanchez's final pretrial conference hearing was set for Dec. 2 by Judge Osborn on Wednesday. A pretrial conference with a jury trial will be held Dec. 11.

Sanchez has not appeared on Fox Sports since the arrest.
