Summer is winding down, which means streaming is gearing up for fall — and for true crime lovers, that means more content than ever on its way.

This weekend, Aug. 23-24, theaters are bustling with indie movies, including honorable mentions like Eden starring Sydney Sweeney, Americana (also starring Sweeney) and Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest (we'll get to that one in weeks to come, stay tuned!).

On the streaming side, major platforms are diving headfirst into true crime, revisiting scandalous celebrity hoaxes and infamous decades-old cases alike.

And there's more! Here's a list of the eight best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.

Honey Don't!

When a girl dies in a mysterious car accident, small-town private investigator Honey O'Donahue (Margaret Qualley) turns her attention to a suspicious church leader (Chris Evans), whose congregation has experienced a number of mysterious deaths.

As kooky as it is suspenseful, Honey Don't also stars Aubrey Plaza and Charlie Day.

Honey Don't releases in theaters on Aug. 22.

Splitsville

Dakota Johnson is in the middle of another chaotic relationship situation this summer with Splitsville.

When Carey's (Kyle Marvin) wife, Ashley (Adria Arjona), asks him for a divorce, he does what every unsuspecting person would do: bolt out of the car, run across a field and stumble into another couple's yard — a couple who happen to be in an open marriage.

Things start to get murky when Carey sleeps with the wife, Julie (Johnson), and her husband, Paul (Michael Angelo Covino), doesn't feel too thrilled about it.

Splitsville releases in theaters on Aug. 22.

The Truth About Jussie Smollett?

Netflix presents the true story of an allegedly fake story, which actually ... might be a true story?

In 2019, Empire star Jussie Smollett claimed he was physically assaulted by two men who yelled racist and homophobic slurs at him and allegedly tied a noose around his neck. However, an investigation found that Smollett had staged the attack, and in 2021, he was convicted of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for making false reports to investigators.

Now, a documentary looks into whether or not the actor was telling the truth, as he claims he was, and Smollett himself speaks up.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox

Everyone knows the story of Amanda Knox: a college student studies abroad in Italy, discovers her roommate murdered in her room and Italian authorities put the blame on her and her boyfriend. She proceeds to be berated by the Italian police until she signs a confession — and is wrongfully convicted of murder.

Now, Hulu is adapting her story into a show, with Tell Me Lies star Grace Van Patten playing the former convict.

The Map That Leads to You

Two of our favorite YA heartthrobs are coming together for a new romance: Riverdale's KJ Apa and Outer Banks' Madelyn Cline.

Based on the book of the same name, The Map That Leads to You tells the story of Heather (Cline), a young woman travelling to Europe whose life is upended when she falls in love with Jack (Apa).

The Peacemaker season 2

DC, say hello to the multiverse — it's coming for you. James Gunn continues his DC run with the second season of Peacemaker, which finds the titular character (John Cena) torn between two dimensions as his reality is less than ideal.

While he avoids the consequences of his actions, Peacemaker seeks refuge in another dimension, where he gets the girl of his dreams and no one is constantly beating him to a pulp.

America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys

America's football team wasn't built in a day, and no one knows that better than owner Jerry Jones.

Netflix's America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys looks back at Jones' purchase of the Dallas Cowboys and how he turned the team into a national treasure.

Stalking Samantha: 13 Years of Terror
