Malik Beasley is reportedly no longer a target in a federal gambling investigation, his attorneys told ESPN on Friday.

A day before free agency was set to open in June, reports emerged that Beasley was under federal investigation as part of a gambling probe. Beasley, who was on the verge of hitting the open market, saw all his offers dry up due to that investigation.

On Friday, Beasley's attorneys Steve Haney and Mike Schachter said Beasley remains uncharged after investigators have looked into the situation for over a month. His attorneys took those investigators to task, saying the allegations had a "catastrophic consequence" on Beasley, per ESPN.

"An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence."

The investigation was reportedly launched after a U.S. sportsbook noticed unusual betting activity involving Beasley prop bets which started in January 2024. At the time, Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

ESPN contacted the US. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York on Friday, which gave no comment regarding Beasley's situation.

At the time the investigation broke, Beasley, 28, reportedly had a three-year, $42 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons on the table. That deal faded once the investigation was announced, and other NBA teams reportedly stopped talking to Beasley due to the news, per ESPN.

With Beasley's situation unclear, the Pistons signed Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson and Javonte Green, making Beasley no longer a target for the team. Even if Beasley wanted to return to Detroit, the team can only offer him a max of $7.2 million as a result of LeVert's full mid-level exception.

Following an excellent 2024-25 NBA season, in which Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game and scored the second-most 3-pointers in the NBA, Beasley was set to secure a much larger, multi-year deal on the market. He ranked as the No. 14 player available in free agency according to Yahoo Sports' Morten Stig Jensen.

But with the investigation holding up Beasley's free-agent prospects, there are now only a handful of teams that can sign the guard for more than $7.2 million.

While Beasley is no longer expected to get the massive payday he initially sought, multiple teams have reportedly kept in touch with Beasley's representatives over the last few weeks, per ESPN. Given his success last season, he could hook on with a new team quickly following Friday's news.
