Noah Cyrus announced she was engaged to her boyfriend, fashion designer Pinkus, in 2023

Their relationship inspired her song "I Saw the Mountains," which is the opening track of her new album I Want My Loved Ones to Go with Me

"My relationship now is a true partnership," Cyrus tells PEOPLE

Noah Cyrus is giving some rare insight into her private world with her fiancé.

"My relationship now is a true partnership. It's something that I hold really close to us — and also hold our privacy very close to us," Cyrus, 25, tells PEOPLE of her relationship with the fashion designer known as Pinkus.

The pair got engaged in 2023, and their relationship actually inspired "I Saw the Mountains," a song about finding peace in the natural world on her new album I Want My Loved Ones to Go with Me.

"I wouldn't have written that song if I wasn't so newly excited about somebody and [had] that hope of living a life together and uniting with each other, especially whenever you are in a relationship with somebody new, and they're on the other side of the world. So that gave me a lot of hope, that feeling of 'we're under the same stars; we'll be reunited one day, and we'll figure things out,'" Cyrus — who kicks off her upcoming tour on Sept. 12 — says of the track. "So the journey of it all has been very beautiful, and something that I'm very happy with and very grateful for is our relationship."

Cyrus — who has "I Saw the Mountains" lyrics tattooed on her left shoulder — says she learned the meaning of a true partnership through her relationship with Pinkus.

"I just think something about love and partnership is just open communication and continuous support of one another, and just being in each other's corner. I think that's also something that has felt new for me," she says. "I'm just excited about everything and about our future."

And it was in finding stability with Pinkus that Cyrus came to a realization.

"I want to be a mom. This is something that I want more than any other goal in my life," says Cyrus, who in recent years overcame a Xanax addiction and took steps to manage her severe depression and anxiety. "And that also ignited so much more excitement for me. I want to be alive for this; I want this to happen. And that was just something that I wasn't used to feeling, because before, I didn't really feel that connected to life. So this is a very strong place that I'm newly in; I'm in the happiest and best, most secure spot I've been in in a very long time . . . and I think that the album was a huge helping hand in getting to this place."

Cyrus revealed that Pinkus had popped the question in a June 2023 Instagram post.

"i never thought i would ever meet a man like you or someone so selfless and filled with so much love to give. you're the least judge mental human being i've ever met. the most talented, the most loyal, the kindest person. i've never felt more loved or in love. i now know the feeling of forever not being long enough," she wrote at the time. "i'm so excited to spend this life with you."
