The New York Giants are hurtling toward the NFL's cut day with a crowded-looking quarterback room.

New York currently has four quarterbacks on its 90-man roster, a product of general manager Joe Schoen's quest to revamp the team's quarterback depth chart during the 2025 NFL offseason.

The Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency to join lone 2024 holdover Tommy DeVito in their quarterback room. Then, the team spent a first-round pick on Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart in the hopes of developing him into a long-term starter.

Many presumed the addition of Dart could knock DeVito off the Giants' roster. But with Dart playing well, speculation has shifted that the 22-year-old could end up winning the backup job behind Wilson, which could make Winston expendable.

Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown downplayed the notion Winston could be trade bait at a Tuesday media availability.

"I appreciate that people are interested, but Jameis is a New York Giant," Brown said.

Still, if the Giants get a quality offer for the 31-year-old, they could consider moving him, especially if they are confident in Dart's trajectory after his strong start to the 2025 NFL preseason.

Below are some potential landing spots if Winston does end up on the trade block ahead of NFL roster cuts.

NFL CUT CANDIDATES: Which notable players could be on chopping block?

Detroit Lions

The Lions entered the 2025 NFL season hoping Hendon Hooker would win the backup quarterback job behind Jared Goff. Thus far, the 2023 third-round pick has been outplayed by Kyle Allen, casting doubts on whether Detroit has enough talent at quarterback.

Winston would provide the Lions with a big-time upgrade behind Goff and has experience working with Dan Campbell. The two overlapped during the 2020 NFL season with the New Orleans Saints.

New York Jets

The Jets have Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor entrenched as their top quarterbacks, but the latter underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during the preseason. He may be ready for Week 1, but the Jets could still consider a trade with their cross-town counterparts if they're worried about the 36-year-old Taylor's status.

It's worth noting that, like Campbell, Jets coach Aaron Glenn overlapped with Winston in New Orleans during the 2020 NFL season.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are another team dealing with an injury to their backup quarterback. Andy Dalton left Carolina's second preseason game with an elbow injury, which prompted the Panthers to add reigning UFL MVP Bryce Perkins to their roster.

If Dalton has to miss significant time, Perkins and Jack Plummer would be the only two quarterbacks behind Bryce Young on Carolina's roster. Winston would be an upgrade over both and could help to menton Young, another former No. 1 overall pick.

Tennessee Titans

Speaking of mentorship roles, Winston could find one in Tennessee. Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is set to start for the Titans as a rookie; Winston could draw from his experiences as the top pick in 2015 to help guide Ward through the season.

The Titans could also use an upgrade at the backup quarterback spot, as Will Levis is out for the season because of a shoulder injury. Brandon Allen is currently entrenched in that role, but Winston would immediately leapfrog him if acquired.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts named Daniel Jones their starter over Anthony Richardson. While the 23-year-old currently remains with the team, his agent expressed disappointment at the decision and noted his trust in the Colts organization was "questionable."

If Indianapolis does part with Richardson, it will need proven competition for Jones. Winston would provide that while allowing the Colts to continue developing Riley Leonard and Jason Bean behind the scenes.
