An Arizona-based influencer was fatally shot during a road rage dispute she wasn't involved in. Her family is calling the incident a "senseless act of violence," according to a GoFundMe.

The woman, identified as 27-year-old Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, was pronounced dead at the hospital following the shooting on Friday, Aug. 15, at around 11:45 p.m. in Glendale, according to the Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Two drivers got into an argument before one of them, Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, allegedly brandished a gun and fired a shot in a random direction, according to Glendale police spokesperson Sgt. Bryan Hoskin.

Hermosillo, who was in another vehicle, was struck by a bullet and later died. Her partner, son and mother were in the car during the incident, the Arizona Republic reported.

"Yarely was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her," the fundraiser said. "She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss."

Online court records do not list a defense attorney for Dousten as of Friday, Aug. 22.

How did the road rage incident begin?

The dispute began when an unnamed driver of a Toyota Tundra told police he got into an argument with Dousten, who pulled out of a private drive in his GMC Sierra and cut in front of him, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes to avoid a crash, according to court documents obtained by the Arizona Republic.

The Tundra driver honked his horn as the Sierra driver began to weave in front of him, but he was eventually able to get around the Sierra, documents said.

The two drivers pulled up next to each other at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Camelback Road with the Sierra on the Tundra's left, according to documents.

The Tundra driver rolled down his window and yelled at Dousten to watch where he was going, documents said. Dousten, who had all the Sierras' windows rolled down, shouted back in Spanish and pulled out a black handgun, documents state.

The Tundra's driver told police Dousten was obviously intoxicated at the time, according to the court documents.

One of the people in the Tundra told police that Dousten said, "You want some of this?" in Spanish, referring to the gun, documents said. However, the Tundra's occupants said Dousten was pointing the gun across his chest to the left — in the opposite direction of their vehicle, the documents continued.

How did Hermosillo get shot?

Shortly after Dousten yelled at them in Spanish, he fired a single shot, striking Hermosillo who was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Chevrolet Equinox to the left of the Sierra, documents said.

When the Tundra's driver told Dousten he had just shot someone, Dousten looked back at the Equinox, which had a bullet hole on the passenger side window, documents said. One witness said Dousten looked scared after he saw what had happened, while another described him as looking confused, according to the court documents.

The incident was captured on traffic cameras, and during the investigation, police interviewed a friend of Dousten, according to the Arizona Republic.

The friend claimed Dousten said he had gotten into a road rage incident and had shot someone who was in the opposite direction of the person he was arguing with, documents said.

Dousten was arrested on Aug. 16 and charged with second-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons and endangerment and aggravated assault.

He is being held on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22.

'Hurts to lose your other half

At a Glendale police news conference on Wednesday, Aug. 20, Hermosillo's partner, Daniel Salgado, tearfully stood behind the podium to reflect on her impact on his and her friends' and family's lives.

"It hurts to lose your other half," he said, later adding, "I feel for my son when he lies to sleep at night and he can't cuddle with her. When we go for a walk, he waits to see if mommy is coming out of the house like she always would."

The family's GoFundMe has raised more than $16,000 as of Friday, Aug 22. It requests donations for funeral costs and to cover other expenses for her child.

Hermosillo was a social media influencer with over 100,000 followers on TikTok, sharing recipes and lifestyle-related content.

Glendale is less than 10 miles from Phoenix.
