The Harry Potter alum admitted that she hasn't taken care of her body and now relies on a walker
The British actress said that although a lot her health problems go back to her diet, she's "absolutely not" going to try using Ozempic
Miriam Margolyes, known for playing herbology expert Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter movies, is getting candid about her health.
Speaking to Weekend Magazine, the 84-year-old actress — who has been vocal about her battle with multiple health conditions — opened up about feeling defeated by her struggles, which she believes is primarily due to her weight.
"I've let my body down," she told the outlet. "I haven't taken care of it. I have to walk with a walker now. I wish I'd done exercise. It's the most ghastly waste of time, except that it keeps you going. So, I'm foolish."
Margolyes, who admitted that she's finally starting to feel her aged, said that despite her health troubles, she has no plans of turning to Ozempic, an FDA-approved prescription medication for people with type 2 diabetes. It's one of the brand names for semaglutide — also known as Wegovy — which works in the brain to impact satiety, and is the latest Hollywood weight loss trend.
"Absolutely not," she said. "That's for diabetics. You shouldn't take medicine meant for people who are really sick. What I do think is we should not have food advertising on television."

Margolyes has long discussed her health conditions, including spinal stenosis and osteoporosis. According to Mayo Clinic, spinal stenosis occurs "when the space inside the backbone is too small. This can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves that travel through the spine."
In May 2023, the actress was admitted to The Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, London, due to a chest infection. The following month — while appearing nude in British Vogue for Pride month — she was transparent about how her diet has impacted her health, and said it has contributed to her deteriorating spinal condition.
"I've limited my life because of my longing for fudge or chopped liver, cheesecake," she said at the time. "All these absurdities. I shouldn't have been so greedy. I should have been stronger."

The British star acknowledged that with her health decline, she now has reduced mobility.
"I can't walk very well, and I'm registered disabled," she told Closer Magazine in July 2024. "I use all kinds of assistance. I've got two sticks and a walker and they're such a bore, but I've just got a mobility scooter, which is a lot of fun."
"It's like having a new toy," she quipped. "It's very good for shopping because it's got a basket on it - and I do enjoy whizzing around on it immensely."
