After starting the season 0-7, the New York Jets finally won a game — and in wild fashion. The Jets defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 39-38 on Sunday, erasing a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Breece Hall rushed for two touchdowns and threw — yes, threw — the game-winning touchdown in the final two minutes. Jets quarterback Justin Fields, one week after being benched, threw a key two-point conversion to get the Jets within six points before Hall's touchdown pass.

For Fields, it was something of a moment of redemption after a difficult week, and an even more difficult season. Earlier this week, Jets owner Woody Johnson slammed Fields and his team during league meetings after the team's winless start, saying that wins were hard "when you have a quarterback with the rating that we've got."

After Johnson's comments, things got to the point that head coach Aaron Glenn refused to say whether Fields would be the starter despite backup Tyrod Taylor being out with a knee injury. But Fields had a much better game on Sunday, going 21 of 32 for 244 pass yards, plus a passing touchdown and the two-point conversion that turned out to be a difference-maker.

Fields spoke candidly postgame Sunday about the emotional toll the week had taken.

"It's been a lot for me emotionally, spiritually. When I was on the field, I was damn near about to start crying, not because we won but because of the goodness of God," Fields said. "Everything I've been through this past week, everything that we've been through as a team these past seven weeks, it was a lot of ups and downs, and I got a lot of support from my teammates, from my brothers, from my family, from my friends, and most of all I'm just thankful." Fields said. "Yesterday I started praying, praying like crazy, just for a win.

"I'm going to get pretty vulnerable right here," Fields continued. "This week I found myself in my closet crying on the ground, lying down. Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles. I felt like I was built to handle that ... Yesterday I was just praying over and over and over again, just one win."

"... That's outside noise at the end of the day. I get that he's the owner of the team, but that's outside noise. The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches still believing in me."

The Jets pull off their first win of the year in wild fashion

In between the Jets' fourth-quarter touchdowns, the Bengals responded with a touchdown of their own, with Chase Brown punching it in from a yard out.

But then it was Hall as the hero again with the final touchdown — a passing touchdown. The Jets came out of the two-minute warning with a trick play on first-and-goal, with Fields tossing the ball to Hall in the backfield, and Hall absolutely floating the ball to Mason Taylor in the end zone.

Taylor pulled off the catch under pressure to tie the game, before New York took the lead with a Nick Folk extra point.

Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco then tried to lead Cincinnati into position for a game-winning field goal, but the Jets defense held.

New York was the last winless team in the league, and finally breaks that streak just before a bye week.
