Milo Ventimiglia missed out on the Panera advertisement with a few of his former Gilmore Girls costars
In the ad, Jared Padalecki and Matt Czuchry — who played Dean and Logan in the series, respectively — reunited to launch the chain's fall soup menu
"I've got a newborn daughter, I live under a rock. I had no idea," The I Can Only Imagine 2 actor tells PEOPLE
Milo Ventimiglia says he had no clue Rory Gilmore's boyfriends recently got together over a warm bowl of soup.
In an advertisement released in September of this year, Jared Padalecki and Matt Czuchry — who played Dean Forester and Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls, respectively — reunited in a fall campaign for Panera.
When asked why Ventimiglia, 48, wasn't in the commercial, the actor replies, "There was a Panera commercial?"
"I've got a newborn daughter, I live under a rock. I had no idea," Ventimiglia, who played Jess Mariano on the beloved series, tells PEOPLE.

Despite not being involved, the This Is Us actor was thrilled to hear his former costars shared the screen once again.
"That's awesome," he adds.
In the ad campaign, Padalecki and Czuchry hilariously highlighted different qualities of Panera's new fall soups, which seemed to tie into the personality traits of Rory's three love interests.
They noted that Fireside Chilli is the "reliable one" that "tastes like home," similar to Padelecki's character, Rory's high school boyfriend. As for a "more sophisticated" option, they turned to the Autumn Squash Soup, like Czuchry's Logan, Rory's wealthy college beau.
Then, of course, the "brooding, mysterious" Black Bean Soup alluded to Ventimiglia's Jess.
"Oh, that's funny," Ventimiglia tells PEOPLE when informed that his character was referenced in the ad.
"I'll have to look it up. Those guys are both so lovely, such lovely dudes," Ventimiglia shares. "I miss them. I definitely do miss them."
Gilmore Girls celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. While Ventimiglia "didn't think about it too much," he shares that his goddaughter and her friends "are constantly referencing things that Jess says, and I have to go, 'What? What is that from?' "
"I think that's a pretty special thing for a series to be able to have that longevity, and especially with a new crowd and inspiring young girls to go to school and educate and read and live kind of a Rory life," he reflects. "I think it's really special. I think it's wonderful."
He continues, "And I think Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, they're just amazing writers and creators, and to have something that has lasted this long, and continues to entertain and educate and get people excited about that world, I think is just wonderful .... it's just pretty incredible."

Last month, Czuchry also spoke with PEOPLE about the long-lasting impact of Gilmore Girls, noting "how much love there's been for the show" through fan events and media coverage over the years.
"The show connected to people when it first came out 25 years ago, and new audiences are still appreciating it today. And there's kids named Logan and tattoos about the Life and Death Brigade," he said, referring to the secret society at Yale University depicted in the show.
"That's such a beautiful thing in terms of what Gilmore Girls has done," he added.
Gilmore Girls is available to stream on Netflix. Ventimiglia's latest project, I Can Only Imagine 2, hits theaters Feb. 20.
