Johnny Depp has booked his next major movie role, in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol

The Paramount Pictures movie, to be directed by Ti West, has scheduled a Nov. 13, 2026 theatrical release

Johnny Depp will reckon with the ghosts of his past, present and future in his new movie.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is in the works from Paramount Pictures, with Depp, 62, attached to star, per multiple outlets. The new take on Charles Dickens' beloved novella has scheduled a Nov. 13, 2026 release date.

Deadline was first to break the news. "This version, a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens' London, follows one man's supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance," per the outlet.

Ti West, who helmed horror hits X, Pearl and MaXXXine, is attached to direct the film, with a script by Nathaniel Halpern. Costarring with Depp is To Leslie Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol marks Depp's first major Hollywood studio movie since 2019's Waiting for the Barbarians and 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The Oscar nominee, who will next star opposite Penélope Cruz in the thriller Day Drinker, more recently starred in French biopic Jeanne du Barry and directed period drama Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness (in U.S. theaters Nov. 7).

Depp stepped back from Hollywood movies following his defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard. (Their televised six-week trial ended in June 2022 with a verdict that found the Aquaman actress liable on all three counts of defamation in regards to a 2018 op-ed she had written. After making appeals, the exes agreed in a settlement that Heard would pay Depp $1 million, which he'd donate to several different charities.)

West's upcoming movie is not the only adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol to hit the big screen; in June, Deadline reported that Robert Eggers and Willem Dafoe, director and star of Nosferatu, are also taking the classic ghost story in a horror direction.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol will be in theaters in time for Christmas next year, Nov. 13, 2026.
