Critics of actress Kristen Bell and her husband, actor and Armchair Expert host Dax Shepard, say that Bell's recent Instagram post celebrating the couple's anniversary with an off-color attempt at humor was wildly insensitive to victims of domestic violence. This, in turn, caused the surprisingly sizable and passionate community of Dax-Shepard-haters to choose violence on Twitter.

As one of the earlier Hollywood actors to participate in the trend of celebrities cashing in on their public personas with completely unnecessary podcasts, Shepard has been able to pivot his brand from "that guy who was in every comedy movie during the 2000s" to "that guy who was in Idiocracy and now interviews every A-lister in entertainment."

Since its inception in 2018, Armchair Expert has been a massive success, garnering many millions of monthly listeners and netting Shepard an estimated $9 million annually, according to Forbes. But, apparently, Shepard's low-stakes chit-chats with all of his Hollywood buddies have been rubbing many, many Twitter users the wrong way for years.

This week, Bell posted a picture of her and Shepard embracing on Instagram with the caption, "Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: 'I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I'm heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.'"

Given how October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, many critics found Bell's post to be in poor taste, and an internet firestorm ensued. Now, haters of Shepard and his podcast are pouring on their gasoline:

Following Bell's controversial Instagram post, a representative for the National Network to End Domestic Violence put out a statement on the matter, telling Page Six, "There's nothing funny about domestic violence 'jokes' that trivialize the very real fear, trauma and pain that millions of victims and survivors face each day," adding, "especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we all have a responsibility to support victims and survivors, to invest in proven solutions and to speak about this issue with the seriousness it deserves."

Neither Bell nor Shepard have publicly commented on the controversy, and Bell's anniversary post remains on her Instagram page at the time of writing.
