In his thick, small-town Texas accent, Montana Jordan tells me he's not sure he's famous. But the ratings speak for themselves. As the star of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, one of the biggest shows on network TV, Jordan's fame is now an objective fact.

The 22-year-old plays the titular Georgie in the Young Sheldon spinoff, which is now starting its second season. The show sees Sheldon's older, more popular (but less brilliant) brother navigating the world as a young father and a newlywed.

Jordan's real life mirrors the one unfolding onscreen: Just two years older than his character, he has a daughter who's 18 months old and a new wife he married in June. He grew up on the set of Young Sheldon, so it makes sense that their lives have begun to merge a bit.

"Becoming a father in real life has allowed me to fully understand what Georgie is going through and the emotions that he's feeling in these different scenes, so it allows me to play him as authentically as possible," he tells Yahoo. "But right after work, I rush back home to my baby girl. That's where I belong."

Over the phone, he keeps calling the show he's on and the people he's surrounded by in Hollywood a "blessing." That's how he's able to balance his dedication to his personal life with his big role in a massive show. Everyone's very professional — especially his costar, Emily Osment, a fellow former child actor who plays his wife, Mandy. The chemistry comes so easily between them onscreen because Osment is "just so good at what she does," Jordan says.

In many ways, Georgie and Mandy are similar to the sitcom couples that came before them: They fight a lot about finances, get into tiffs with their in-laws and uncover little quirks about each other's personalities that they never bargained for. This season, they're juggling Georgie's new job running a tire store he took over for his father-in-law and Mandy's budding career as a weather presenter while still figuring out their money troubles and the challenges of parenting a baby.

"They've got a lot of opinions … and it causes problems in the relationship. They're gonna hit rocky spots here and there," Jordan says of the fictional couple. "They're young parents and they're trying to figure out their careers and keep their lives afloat and this and that, but they always figure a way out and love each other at the end of the day."

But their love story, which is explored more deeply in Young Sheldon, is unconventional. They have a 12-year age gap, and their relationship began when Georgie was 17 and Mandy was 29 after they both lied about their ages. By the time the truth came out, Mandy was pregnant, and the couple decided to stick it out. The show has repeatedly addressed the controversial age gap, and Jordan isn't shy about doing the same.

"I think Georgie getting with an older gal … well, he's always had an old soul, and he's always been ahead of the times. I think it was inevitable for him to be with an older woman," he says. "Both of them lied about their ages, but God had a plan for them."

Jordan has been playing Georgie since 2017, when he was 14 years old. He's so similar to the character — the accent, he swears, "can't get no more real than this" — and the parallels with his real life are undeniable.

"We've kind of grown up together. I've learned things from Georgie, and one of the things I've learned from him is not to talk back to your wife," he laughs. "Growing up on TV — there's something to be said about it. I've enjoyed every second of it, and thankfully I've kept my head on straight, and didn't veer off the path that I needed to be going down too much."

Going back to his small hometown of Ore City, Texas, which has fewer than 1,400 residents, helps keep Jordan centered. He keeps to himself, hanging out with his family on the property he owns there.

"Out here [in Hollywood] I don't do any manual labor. I'm just on set talking. So back in Texas, I try to do a little manual labor and realize that's just how the real world is," he says.

He also brings his family on set with him. Every Tuesday, his daughter visits — though lately she's gotten a little chatty.

"During the run-through, she was just up there screaming because my wife had the TV on … in our dressing room, and she was looking at the screen just screaming for Daddy," Jordan says. "She had to go take a walk … but [for the most part], she enjoys it. Everyone loves it when she comes up there."

Maybe that's why he doesn't feel famous — though his reach is enormous, his life is small. That's the way he likes it. Even when people run up to him with enthusiasm, praising how much they love his character on the shows they adore.

"I've run into many people who say their kids have watched it over and over and over," Jordan says. "It's incredible to hear … but I don't really watch TV."

Jordan didn't even have a frame of reference for what it's like to love a show that much until he met his wife and saw her love for Gilmore Girls, which she's seen "a million times," he says. To hear her talk about it constantly warms his heart.

"I didn't realize that is what everybody else feels when they watch Young Sheldon or Georgie & Mandy. It really does make me feel good," he says.
