*Jennifer's Body 2* is going to be just as "fun and crazy" as the cult classic original, according to director Karyn Kusama.

The filmmaker shared an exciting update on the planned follow-up, revealing that she's loving everything she's heard so far about Diablo Cody's script for a sequel to the 2009 comedic horror starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried.

"I know she's working on it right now," Kusama told Deadline. "And I'm very excited to hear what comes of it. I know some of the bones of it, so I'm not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it."

*Jennifer's Body *follows a high school student (Fox) who becomes possessed after a failed sacrifice targeting her. She begins killing her male classmates to eat their flesh in order to survive, much to the horror of her best friend Anita "Needy" (Seyfried). The movie also starred Adam Brody, Johnny Simmons, J.K. Simmons, and Amy Sedaris, and was considered a flop when it was released, which the stars blame on marketing that focused solely on Fox's sex appeal. It has since achieved an underappreciated cult favorite status and critical praise over the past 16 years.

"The marketing team cheapened it, like it was just, you know, a romp," Seyfried said in March. "A gory romp. I think they ruined it."

Brody stated similar thoughts in 2023 about how the marketing "couldn't have missed the mark harder."

"The film was a marketing person's dream, and then to see them do that?" he said, referencing Fox's skimpy outfit in the main poster. "Part *Goosebumps*, part *Maxim*. It's not even anything she wears in the movie. The film was directed by a woman, starring two women, written by that year's screenwriting Oscar winner, and instead they're like, 'Let's bury all of that. Don't tell anyone that. This is for people who like *Transformers*.'"

Diablo Cody has been trying to resurrect 'Jennifer's Body' for TV

There have long been talks about a *Jennifer's Body* resurrection, with screenwriter Cody publicly announcing her desire to make a sequel many times over the past few years. Even the stars have recently declared that a sequel is happening.

"We're making another one," Seyfried told Brody during *Variety*'s "Actors on Actors" conversation in June.

"I heard," Brody confirmed. "What can you tell me?"

Seyfried revealed that producer Mason Novick (*500 Days of Summer*) is attached to the sequel, who made the original with Jason Reitman and Daniel Dubiecki. She also asked Brody if he would return, but he noted that his character died in the original and he hadn't yet been contacted about the project.

"But so did Megan," Seyfried replied, referencing how Fox's character also died at the end of the original. "And I'm not doing it without her." She also joked that the sequel should be called *Needy's Body.*

Cody also decided in 2024 that her recent comedic horror movie *Lisa Frankenstein* — starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse — is connected to *Jennifer's Body. *

"I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe," Cody said at the *Lisa Frankenstein* premiere. "I have decided that. I will not say that you'd see any overt references to that, but I'm saying it."**
