Justin Timberlake has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and opened up about the struggles he's faced while on his "Forget Tomorrow World Tour."

The singer posted a pair of Instagram Stories detailing his diagnosis to coincide with the conclusion of his global tour. Fans recently noticed that Timberlake appeared sluggish and low-energy during performances on the international leg of the trek, which he suggested was due to the nerve damage and fatigue he experienced from Lyme disease.

"I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme Disease–which I don't say so you feel bad for me – but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes," he wrote. "If you've experienced this disease or know someone who has- then you're aware: Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically."

He described his mindset when he first got diagnosed with Lyme disease, explaining that he contemplated stopping the tour but ultimately decided to continue for the love of performance. "When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure," he continued. "But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going.

"Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself but, I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget. I was reluctant to talk about this because I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself. But I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren't misinterpreted. Sharing all of this with the hope that we can all find a way to be more connected. I'd like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too."

Timberlake wrapped his "Forget Tomorrow World Tour" in Istanbul on July 30, more than a year after he set off the trek in Vancouver last April. Throughout the tour, he made his way through the United States before heading over to Europe, Mexico and South America. He returned overseas to conclude the tour, which was staged in the wake of his sixth studio album "Everything I Thought It Was."

Kavanaugh defends emergency orders as Supreme Court faces more bids for intervention

Justice Brett Kavanaugh defended how the Supreme Court is handling an unprecedented number of emergency appeals from the Trump administration, saying that as presidents push the limits of their power, courts will have to respond.

Speaking before a group of lawyers and judges Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri, Kavanaugh said presidents in both parties, stymied by inaction in Congress, have relied more on executive orders "to get things done." That's led to more legal challenges, Kavanaugh said, which inevitably draw in the Supreme Court to determine whether the new regulation can take effect, at least temporarily, while the legal challenges play out.

So far, the court has been inclined to say yes, agreeing to allow a number of President Trump's high-profile executive orders to take effect while the lower courts review the merits, such as orders to fire members of independent federal agencies, freeze certain federal grants and plan layoffs at nearly every federal agency.

Asked about criticism that the court isn't doing enough to explain its reasoning in some of those emergency cases, Kavanaugh said the court has written more than it has in the past. He said the court also had made some internal changes in the past five or six years "to try to get the right answer," including scheduling emergency oral arguments, as in the recent case challenging nationwide injunctions.

He said he was a "fan of more process" and mentioned two recent cases, including the president's removal power in independent agencies, where he unsuccessfully urged the court to step in and decide the underlying issue before it went through the lower courts.

Kavanaugh's hour-long remarks came in a conversation with U.S. District Judge Sarah Pitlyk, one of his former law clerks, at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit's judicial conference. It's one of several judicial conferences this summer that will feature different justices.

Last week, Justice Elena Kagan spoke to the California-based 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, where she urged the court to be more cautious with its handling of the so-called emergency docket. She also said that while she finds some of the court's recent decisions "frustrating" and "sometimes even maddening," prompting fierce dissents, she believed her colleagues were "all operating in good faith."

Kavanaugh shared a similar sentiment about the other justices, saying even in disagreement, "they're thoughtfully engaging in difficult issues," and he believed it was "a sign of strength when there are different views expressed."

"The collegiality of the Supreme Court is very strong, strong to this day," he said. "We all look out for each other. We think the other eight are patriots and are good people."

His wide-ranging conversation with Pitlyk was at times personal and humorous, touching on everything from lessons he's taken from sports to some of his favorite opinions in recent terms. He said he's aware of criticism of the court, but that "criticism is part of the job."

Like the referees for high school sports, Kavanaugh said, as a justice, "you have to recognize and know thick skin and criticism comes with the territory."

"Did you ever walk out of a game and say, 'our team lost, but the refs were great?'" Kavanaugh said, to laughter from the audience. "That informs my judging, too."

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — The United States and Ecuador on Thursday signed a bilateral agreement aimed at strengthening their collaboration against transnational criminal networks.

The agreement, signed during a visit of U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to the South American country, facilitates the exchange of information on suspected criminal offenders and risk assessments of cargo and travelers. Noem told reporters the efforts are "crucial steps to improve security and ensure that migration is carried out within the framework of the law."

The deal with Ecuador comes as the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to bolster regional cooperation in its clampdown against immigration and transnational criminal groups, including Tren de Aragua, the Venezuelan gang designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the White House earlier this year.

On Wednesday, Noem signed a similar agreement with Chile, which she visited as part of her latest tour of Latin America. That agreement allows Chilean officials to identify potentially dangerous migrants entering or exiting the country and share their fingerprints, iris scans and other biometric data with Homeland Security to prevent such individuals from traveling to the U.S.

Fever's Sophie Cunningham: Caitlin Clark critics 'dumb as f---'

-

Field Level MediaAugust 1, 2025 at 2:13 AM

Jun 7, 2025; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Injured Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) and guard Caitlin Clark (22) react from the bench during the first half of a WNBA game against the Chicago Sky at United Center. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images (Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images)

When it comes to the face of the WNBA and the player taking the league to new heights, the Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham minces no words.

Cunningham says critics of teammate Caitlin Clark don't just come from the stands or via social media either. There is a resentment from players in the league that the seventh-year guard finds abhorrent.

"It literally pisses me off when people are like, 'She's not the face of the league.' What?" Cunningham said on her new podcast, 'Show Me Something.' "There's really good, well-known people in our league. I'm not discrediting them. We have a lot of badasses in our league. Hell yeah to that. I'm all for that. But when people try to argue that she's not the face of our league or our league would be where we're at without her, you're dumb as s---. You're literally dumb as f---."

Cunningham was on the other side with the Phoenix Mercury last season, when Clark was a rookie, and said teammates planned to zero in on the young star player.

"I know the talks Phoenix had in their locker room of, like, 'We're gonna show her what the W really is,'" Cunningham said. "I get it to a certain extent. Every rookie coming into the league, that's how you're going to treat them. But there's just more for her. It's her second year. Now being on her team and seeing it, I'm like, 'What are people doing?' It's just too much."

Cunningham came to Clark's defense on the court earlier this season in an incident with the Connecticut Sun's Jacy Sheldon and Marina Mabrey.

Clark has been limited to just 13 games because of multiple leg injuries and her 16.5 points per game are below her 19.2 mark over 40 games last season when she was named WNBA Rookie of the Year.

But within those 13 games was a matchup with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky that drew 2.7 million viewers that was the most watched WNBA game in 25 years. Teams in smaller home arenas also move their games to bigger arenas for matchups with Clark and the Fever.

"This is what we've always wanted as a league so like, who cares who gets the credit," Cunningham said. "And if you're smart (you know) you're making money off them. ... Just be nice. Why can't people be nice?"

MLB trade deadline grades: Live tracker, analysis of every deal on deadline day

-

 • MLB trade deadline grades: Live tracker, analysis of every deal on deadline day

Jesse Yomtov and Gabe Lacques, USA TODAY July 31, 2025 at 9:04 PM

Counting down to Major League Baseball's 6 p.m. ET trade deadline on Thursday, the deals are starting to come together with contenders making a flurry of moves in the final 24 hours.

The Seattle Mariners got the top bat on the market overnight, landing old friend Eugenio Suárez in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The NL East race got even more interesting with the New York Mets (Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers) and Philadelphia Phillies (Jhoan Duran) each making significant bullpen upgrades.

MLB TRADE DEADLINE: Latest news and updates as clock runs down

Wednesday's hot stove action also included an interesting in-division deal between the Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates, with third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes heading to Cincinnati.

As teams scramble to get deals done in the final hours before the deadline, follow along for grades and analysis on the biggest deals of deadline day:

Ryan O'Hearn, Ramon Laureano trade gradesPadres grade: A

San Diego dramatically improved its lineup with the deal for two of the top bats on the market, having already acquired catcher Freddy Fermin from the Royals earlier in the day. The Padres really should push the Dodgers in the NL West over the next two months.

Orioles grade: TBDJake Bird trade grades

New York Yankees receive RHP Jake Bird; Colorado Rockies receive 2B Roc Riggio, LHP Ben Shields.

Yankees grade: A-

Hours after agreeing to a deal with the Pirates for closer David Bednar, the Yankees further fortified their bullpen with with the 29-year-old Bird, under team control through 2028. With a 4.73 ERA this season and even career home-road splits away from Coors Field, Bird doesn't have quite the upside as other relievers on the market this week, but the Yankees acquire a reliable – and cheap – arm to the middle relief corps.

Rockies grade: C

Colorado is in a race to avoid the worst record in MLB history, but decided to trade its best relief pitcher who currently costs just about nothing. They'll save a few million in Bird's arbitration years, but dealing the right-hander was definitely not somethign the Rockies needed to do.

Cedric Mullins trade grades

New York Mets receive OF Cedric Mullins; Baltimore Orioles receive RHP Raimon Gomez, RHP Anthony Nuñez, RHP Chandler Marsh.

Mets grade: B+

Adding Mullins is nice for the Mets, giving them a plus defender in center field to phase out the glove-first Tyrone Taylor. He's a rental but with his power-speed combination, Mullins could be a huge contributor down the stretch as New York tries to fight off Philadelphia for first place in the NL East.

Orioles grade: B+

Mullins' time with the Orioles ends 10 years after the club drafted him in the 13th round. It's certainly not the way Baltimore wanted to say goodbye to their longtime outfielder, but the Orioles got two of the Mets' top 30 prospects in Nunez (No. 14) and Gomez (No. 30).

David Bednar trade grades

Yankees receive RHP David Bednar; Pittsburgh Pirates receive C/1B Rafael Flores, C/1B Edgleen Perez, OF Brian Sanchez.

Yankees grade: A

The Bombers bolster their bullpen for the stretch run and beyond, landing the two-time All-Star reliever who will be under team control through 2026. The 30-year-old's addition is huge considering Devin Williams and Luke Weaver are free agents at the end of the season.

Pirates grade: C+

Holding one of the last relievers remaining on the market in the hours leading up to the deadline, you might have expected the Pirates to get more in this deal for a controllable All-Star. Flores ranks as the Yankees' No. 8 prospect according to MLB.com, but he's already 24 years old and has struggled since his promotion to Class AAA (.677 OPS in 10 games). Perez is 19 years old and has had a tough season in Class A (.209 average in 301 AB) but scouts hope his bat will catch up with his glove behind the plate.

Harrison Bader trade grades

Philadelphia Phillies receive OF Harrison Bader; Minnesota Twins receive OF Hendry Mendez, RHP Geremy Villoria.

Phillies grade: A-

Philadelphia gives up basically nothing to get one of the game's better defensive center fielders, who should provide some pop for an outfield that desperately needs some. Bader has an .809 OPS in 31 career postseason games.

Twins grade: B+

Might as well get a couple of projects in exhange for a rental outfielder. The 21-year-old Mendez ranked as the Phillies' 12th-best prospect and has an .808 OPS in 85 Class AA games this season. Signed as an international free agent this past winter, Villoria is just 16 years and old and recently made his pro debut with 19 strikeouts through five starts.

Kyle Finnegan trade grades

Detroit Tigers receive Kyle Finnegan; Washington Nationals receive RHP Josh Randall, RHP R.J. Sale

Tigers grade: B+

Finnegan isn't Mason Miller or Jhoan Duran or Ryan Helsley, but the 33-year-old is a great addition to Detroit's bullpen as a veteran with ninth-inning experience, saving 86 games over the past three seasons for the middling Nationals. An All-Star in 2024, Finnegan has only given up three home runs in 34 games this season and could take some save chances from Will Vest, who has 2.53 ERA in 16 saves for the Tigers in 2025.

Nationals grade: B

The least-sexy closer on the market, Finnegan netted the Nationals a pair of pitchers with Randall ranking as Detroit's No. 15 prospect, according to MLB.com

Mason Miller trade grades

San Diego Padres receive RHP Mason Miller, LHP JP Sears; Athletics receive SS Leo De Vries, RHP Braden Nett, RHP Henry Báez and RHP Eduarniel Nuñez

Padres grade: B

It's quite a coup getting both the game's most dominant closer and a guy with four years of club control remaining after this season. Miller, 26, is generally untouchable in the ninth inning and in two seasons as A's closer has nailed down 48 of 54 save opportunities, an 89% conversion rate on par with Hall of Famers Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera.

The cost? It's huge. De Vries is the most significant international signing the Padres have had this decade, no small honor, and he's consistently been challenged – and succeeded – at levels where the average player is four to five years older than him. Put simply: Not many 17-year-olds flash power and speed in stateside A ball and go on to the Arizona Fall League, as De Vries did in 2024.

While Miller's controllable years mean the Padres can flip him in future seasons for either immediate help or to galvanize their system, it still stings to trade a potential (likely?) franchise player for a reliever.

Athletics grade: A

The deal begs one dark question: Will any of their young stars make it to Las Vegas, should they ever complete their ballpark there?

It's yet another step back at the big league level for the A's in a five-year cycle of utter desiccation that hastened their move from Oakland. And it's perhaps not a coincidence that Miller was dealt months before he entered the first of four years of salary arbitration.

– Gabe Lacques

Shane Bieber trade grades

Toronto Blue Jays receive RHP Shane Bieber; Cleveland Guardians receive RHP Khai Stephen.

Blue Jays grade: A-

Toronto is going for it! Bieber, the 2020 Cy Young winner, still hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery early in 2023 and hit some speedbumps in his rehab but the Blue Jays get a high-upside starter who is under team control through next year. Bieber has a $16 million team option (with a $4 million buyout) for 2026, which could end up looking like a steal.

Guardians grade: B+

Bieber gets traded before making his Cleveland return, a huge bummer for fans 30-year-old right-hander who was drafted by the organization in 2016. A second-round pick last year, Stephen was considered one of the Blue Jays' top five prospects and is 9-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 91 ⅔ innings across three levels this season, currently in Class AA. Unfortunate that the Guardians had to let him go, but a nice return in the one-for-one swap.

Paul Sewald trade grades

Detroit Tigers receive RHP Paul Sewald; Cleveland Guardians receive player to be named later.

Tigers grade: B+

Sewald is injured and expected to return in September, so this is a move the Tigers are making for October. The 35-year-old had a 4.70 ERA in 18 games this season, but his underlying numbers look better than that with a 4.07 FIP, 1.174 WHIP and 4.5 strikeouts per walk.

Guardians grade: B

PTBNL for an injured reliever? Why not.

Eugenio Suárez trade grades

Seattle Mariners receive 3B Eugenio Suarez; Arizona Diamondbacks receive 1B Tyler Locklear, RHP Juan Burgos and RHP Hunter Cranton.

Mariners grade: B+

They got the top hitter available and it's telling that the Mariners liked Suárez enough to bring him back after less than two years apart – despite his struggles in Seattle. That puts a ton of pressure on the slugger who is a free agent after the season. Mariners third basemen have totaled just five home runs and 35 RBIs this season, bottom-five in the majors in both categories, so it's a move they had to make.

Diamondbacks grade: B+

Pretty good return, plucking three of Seattle's top 20 prospects in Locklear (No. 9), Cranton (16) and Burgos (17). Locklear, 24, will likely find himself getting a run-out in Arizona's lineup sooner rather than later. The first baseman made his big-league debut last season and has nothing left to prove in the minors (.316/.401/.552, 19 HR, 82 RBis in Class AAA).

Jhoan Duran trade grades

Philadelphia Phillies receive RHP Jhoan Duran; Minnesota Twins receive C Eduardo Tait, RHP Mick Abel

Phillies grade: A

Dave Dombrowski seized on his opportunity to get 2½ years of one of the best relievers in baseball in exchange for just a pair of prospects. It's a huge addition for the Phillies, with Duran presumably assuming the ninth-inning role and taking a ton of pressure off the club's other high-leverage guys. Philadelphia has the 27-year-old flamethrower under team control through 2027.

Twins grade: C-

It's hard to believe that this is the best return the Twins could have gotten for the most desirable reliever on the market. That said, Tait is only 18 years old and rising fast on prospect boards, while Abel is a good candidate for a post-hype bounce back.

Ke'Bryan Hayes trade grades

Cincinnati Reds receive 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes; Pittsburgh Pirates receive LHP Taylor Rogers, SS Sammy Stafura

Reds grade: C+

Surprising move for Cincinnati, which is buying fairly low on Hayes, who remains one of the best defensive third basemen in the game. Maybe Hayes will benefit from a move to Great American Ball Park, one of MLB's most hitter-friendly parks? It's certainly a lower-risk move for the Reds taking on the remainder of Hayes' salary – $30 million from 2026-2029 plus a $6 million buyout for 2030 – but third base isn't usually a position that you're willing to sacrifice offense at.

Cincinnati manager Terry Francona said Hayes "might be the best defender in baseball," but wasn't as bullish on his new third baseman's bat. "We know where the hitting has been," Francona said. "Sometimes a change of scenery − I don't want to get too far ahead because I've barely talked to him but he seems excited and we're excited to have him and see where it goes."

Pirates grade: B

It's naive to believe the Pirates will seriously reinvest the Hayes savings into winning games in the years to come, but the club cleared itself of a long-term deal with a guy who didn't turn out to be what they expected. Credit where it's due for Pittsburgh investing in Hayes with an eight-year, $70 million extension back in 2022 – and maybe they're giving up too early on the 28-year-old at a low annual cost – but the deal nets $36 million in savings after the 2025 season. That said, the Pirates probably could have gotten a better return this winter.

Rio Takeda and Eri Okayama lead a Japanese surge in the Women's British Open

 • Rio Takeda and Eri Okayama lead a Japanese surge in the Women's British Open

August 1, 2025 at 4:37 AM

1 / 5Britain Golf Women's OpenRio Takeda of Japan competes during the first round of the Women's British Open golf championship, at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Porthcawl, Wales, Thursday, July 31, 2025. (AP Photo/Kin Cheung)

PORTHCAWL, Wales (AP) — Rio Takeda overcame a double bogey at the turn with four birdies over her final seven holes Thursday for a 5-under 67 to share the lead with Eri Okayama in a Women's British Open that featured a Japanese surge and a mixed day for Lottie Woad.

Japanese players held the top three spots at Royal Porthcawl, with Miyu Yamashita at 68. Three others were among the top 12 after an opening round in which the wind kept anyone from going low but about half the field was at par or better.

Takeda, one of 20 players who have won on the LPGA Tour this year, took a double bogey on the par-5 ninth hole, only to rally over the closing hole to make up ground. Okayama, who plays the Japan LPGA, hit fairway metal to 12 feet on No. 17 for her final birdie.

Woad started the month as the No. 1 amateur in women's golf. She won on the Ladies European Tour, missed a playoff by one shot in an LPGA major and then won the Women's Scottish Open against a strong field in her pro debut.

She was the betting favorite at the final major of the year and did well to stay in the mix with a birdie on the par-5 18th for an even-par 72.

Woad played alongside defending champion Lydia Ko (73) and Lilia Vu, a double major winner from two years ago, who had a 74.

"Had a good amount of birdies, just a few poor bogeys on the front nine that could have definitely been avoided," Woad said. "Nice to finish on par and birdie the last. It's one of those rounds that could have definitely gotten away from me. I am happy how I hung in there and got a decent round together."

Nelly Korda, whose No. 1 ranking she has held for the last 16 months is in jeopardy, had an early bogey and kept a clean card the rest of the way, adding three birdies for a 70. Much like Woad, that round could have produced a much higher score if not for a series of key pars, none bigger than Korda's 12-footer on No. 16.

"Sometimes you have to get lucky when you make the wrong decision. You kind of have to bail yourself out," said Korda, still looking for her first win this year after seven titles last season.

Korda and Woad played in the afternoon, when the wind began to blow harder off the Bristol Channel, and faced a quick turnaround before starting the second round in the morning.

Mao Saigo, who won the first LPGA major of the year at the Chevron Championship, and Riviera Maya Open winner Chisato Iwai were in the large group at 69. That also included Mimi Rhodes of England, who leads the LET money list with three titles.

Rhodes grew up playing across the Bristol Channel, and she came over a month ago to see Royal Porthcawl ahead of her first Women's British Open. The wind was strong that day, which made Thursday feel more manageable.

"The members told me it was the windiest they'd ever seen it, so I played it like with a lot of wind," Rhodes said. "So yeah, maybe I played it when it was at its toughest and now I just think it's easier."

If you grew up listening to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, it probably doesn't take more than a few notes to send you straight back in time. But no matter how many covers you've heard over the years, chances are you've never heard one quite like this.

Outside the gates of Buckingham Palace, amid the formality of the Changing of the Guard, the Coldstream Guards broke tradition in a truly spectacular fashion.

The band played the unmistakable riff of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" for the crowd. Dressed in their signature red tunics and towering bearskin hats, the King's Guard delivered a jaw-dropping tribute to the late Prince of Darkness.

The moment, shared by @theprojecttv, came just days after Osbourne's death at age 76. The iconic rocker, whose legacy spans from the birth of heavy metal to the hit reality show The Osbournes, died on July 22.

The unexpected performance struck an emotional chord with fans around the world. Many applauded the powerful and respectable tribute, with some saying it was a unique blend of tradition and rock that Osbourne would have approved.

Osbourne's legacy will live on not only in his music but also in the hearts of fans who recognized a working-class hero who never stopped fighting. A new exhibit at the Birmingham Museum, Ozzy Osbourne (1948–2025): Working-Class Hero, now invites fans to pay tribute in person and leave messages in a growing book of condolences that will be available until Sunday, August 3.

In a world where royal bands typically stick to marches and classical themes, the King's Guard broke the mold, reminding us that true legends deserve unexpected honors.
