Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a sweet memory they had with Jane Goodall while paying tribute to the late conservationist.
Just hours after it was revealed that Goodall died at the age of 91 on Wednesday, October 1, Harry, 41, and Markle, 44, recalled a special moment they shared with her in a statement to People.
"Dr. Jane Goodall DBE was a visionary humanitarian, scientist, friend to the planet, and friend to us," the couple said in a joint statement.
Harry and Markle continued, "Her commitment to changing lives extends beyond what the world saw, and also to what we personally felt. She held our son, Archie, when he was first born, and showered love and care to those who were privileged to know her. She will be deeply missed."
Goodall's memories with Harry and Markle weren't her only ties to the royal family, as she was also made a Dame in 2004 by Harry's father, King Charles.
Harry and Goodall first met in December 2018 when she was invited to Kensington Palace to discuss their shared concern for the environment. Then in June 2019, Goodall stopped by Harry and Markle's then-home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor to discuss the Global Leadership Meeting for the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots youth program at Windsor Castle later that month.
While recalling their meeting during a conversation with Daily Mail's Weekend Magazine, Goodall explained that "Meghan came in to listen with Archie," who was just a newborn after being born on May 6, 2019.
"He was very tiny and very sleepy," she said of the couple's oldest child. "Not too pleased to be passed from his mummy."

In addition to Archie, Harry and Markle are the proud parents to daughter Lilibet, 4.
Goodall rose to fame as the world's leading expert on chimpanzees after she spent decades studying them in the wild in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park.
"Dr. Goodall's discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world," the Jane Goodall Institute said in a statement while announcing her passing. "[Her] life and work not only made an indelible mark on our understanding of chimpanzees and other species, but also of humankind and the environments we all share. She inspired curiosity, hope and compassion in countless people around the world, and paved the way for many others."
