Kate Middleton is said to be learning a new hobby

British contemporary artist Chris Levine recently revealed that he's been teaching the Princess of Wales how to meditate

The serene practice is a favorite of Levine, who is well known for taking one of the most famous portraits of the late Queen Elizabeth, the relaxed and placid Lightness of Being

Kate Middleton is taking on an unexpected new hobby that shares a connection to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Chris Levine, a British contemporary artist known for taking one of the most famous portraits of the late Queen, was quoted by Harriet Kean in the Daily Mail this week, revealing he's been teaching the Princess of Wales to meditate.

"I think I've said too much!" Levine said of the disclosure.

The connection to the late Queen comes from a photograph Levine was commissioned to take of her in 2004, in recognition of 800 years of allegiance to the Crown by the Island of Jersey.

Over two sittings, the contemporary artist, known for his work with light and lasers, captured over 8,000 images of Queen Elizabeth, according to a history of the portrait by Barneby's. The monarch herself eventually selected the winner, an elegant and solemn portrait that was entitled Equanimity and eventually featured on the cover of Time magazine.

However, another photograph from the shoot would prove to be even more popular. In between poses, Levine had captured the Queen with her eyes closed, looking peaceful and relaxed. This image came to be known as Lightness of Being and has been celebrated as one of the best portraits ever taken of the Queen. It is also the cover image of Levine's new book, Inner Light.

The meditative energy of the image drew Levine to the outtake. "A couple of years later, I was looking through the work, and thought: 'Wow, that's pretty powerful,' " he told HELLO! earlier this year. "It's the most evocative image of a royal by any artist, and it's become a historic work."

It's that same sereneness that encouraged Levine, and now, Kate, to try meditation. Many celebrities have touted the practice as "life-changing," and a 2022 study even found that meditating could be just as beneficial in reducing anxiety as medication.

While she may be new to the practice of meditation, Princess Kate has long been an advocate of connecting with nature, including the practice of "forest bathing."

Being outdoors took on a deeper meaning amid her cancer treatment last year. In her first health update after announcing her cancer diagnosis, she appeared in a photo that showed her posing outdoors and leaning against a tree in Windsor. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told PEOPLE of the snap, "There she is in nature, which has fortified her, and looking upward in a sign of real hope and encouragement for everybody."

Kate's not alone in practicing meditation. Her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, touted the benefits of meditation in 2019, revealing that he was meditating every day as he managed his anxiety ahead of welcoming his first child with his wife, Meghan Markle.

In a post on her former lifestyle blog, The Tig, Meghan shared her own experience with meditation, admitting she found it "endlessly daunting at first (the thoughts, the distractions, the boredom of it)."

"But [it] soon became the quietude that rocked my world," she wrote. "I can't put my finger on the why or the how, but I will tell you this much, for me…I am just happier. And meditation has much to do with that."
