A man was hospitalized in critical condition after falling 50 feet from a scoreboard at the Pittsburgh Steelers' Acrisure Stadium on Oct. 25

A man fell over 50 feet from a scoreboard at Acrisure Stadium over the weekend.
In the evening of Saturday, Oct. 25, the man was working at the Pittsburgh Steelers' stadium when he fell from the main scoreboard onto a "mid-level catwalk," Pittsburgh Public Safety said in a news release. The organization did not identify the man, but described him as a "worker."
Authorities and medical personnel responded to the site of the incident around 10 p.m. local time, when "rescue medics were able to reach him" on the stadium catwalk, "and lower him to safety," according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Officials used a stokes basket and rope system to lower the man, footage shared by CBS Pittsburgh shows. In an audio clip obtained by the outlet, a first responder who reported to the scene said, "I have patient contact. He is conscious. Significant amount of blood loss."
Witnesses saw a large group of NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast crew members at the scene of the fall, CBS News reported.
He was transported to the hospital in "critical condition," safety officials said. He suffered severe injuries to his lower body, according to CBS Pittsburgh. Another Pittsburgh outlet, ABC affiliate WTAE, reported that he was taken to nearby Allegheny General Hospital.
In a statement shared two days after the incident on Monday, Oct. 27, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety said the organization "has no further information or comment regarding this incident beyond the response by EMS, Fire, and Police."
Reports about what the man was doing by the stadium scoreboard have varied, with some outlets reporting that the man was a videographer and others stating he is an employee of the stadium. (A Steelers spokesperson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.)
