One TikToker sparked an entire conversation after making a video criticizing how people dress for concerts

In the video, the creator insisted she wanted to be able to tell what concert you're going to, based on what you're wearing

Commenters both agreed and disagreed, sharing arguments for either side

One concert fan is dividing the internet with her polarizing views on what people should wear to concerts.

TikTok user @shotmyheartwithnovacaine posted a video in July ranting about how people dress when going to concerts to her 137K followers. "If you are going to a concert, I should be able to tell what concert you are going to by your outfit," she says in the video.

"I'm literally so tired of the girls that just wear a Lululemon Align top and, like, jean shorts," she continued. "Like, girl, have some fun."

Viewers did not hesitate to leave comments expressing their feelings in return — both in agreement and staunchly against.

"Girl stay home if it bothers you that much," one user wrote.

"I fear this is such a teenager mindset." another wrote. "It gets to a point in life where you realize you can enjoy things without having to perform [for] them."

One commenter called attention to the fact that perhaps people should not buy new clothes just for concerts, writing, "nah people getting Shein orders for every single thing they're going to is a problem actually," to which the creator replied, "It definitely is and I 100% agree, that's why I either thrift or diy mine."

The TikToker edited the caption on the post after it gained traction, writing, "im not trying to police what other people wear, wear whatever you want 😭. i worded this badly and didn't expect it to blow up."

"it's more so aimed at the basic rich white girls who will spend a fortune on a new outfit just to wear it once and for it to not even match the music." she continued in the caption. "they're also the ones that make fun of people who actually put effort into their outfits and plan them months ahead of time."

Commenters continued to call her out, saying she should not care about what other people are wearing so much and that people are "there for music and not a fashion show," as one person put it.

One commenter, agreeing with the OP, wrote, "Wdym people dont color coordinate their outfit based on the artists most recent album 🫩."

Some of the biggest tours in recent years — like Taylor Swift's Eras Tour and Beyoncé's Renaissance and Cowboy Carter Tour — brought out millions of fans decked out in gear that represented their favorite artist head to toe. For Swift's tour, fans dressed as the singer's various eras, matching their favorite album. For Cowboy Carter, many fans rocked their best Western and Americana looks.

Other fandoms, including Lady Gaga's, Harry Styles' and BTS' (to name just a few), have also been known to dress on theme for shows — but that doesn't mean it's a requirement. It's a way that some fans choose to get in the spirit of the show.

While one person commented that this trend of going all out for concerts is solely a "Gen-Z thing," there are certainly a wide range of people who couldn't wait to pick out their cowboy hats or even hand-make their glittering bodysuits after buying their Beyoncé concert tickets this past summer.

"Concert outfits are literally one of the most fun parts of the entire concert," one user wrote, agreeing with the OP and some commenters. "And you can dress up in your own way too, in your own budget and comfort."
