Fantasy football Week 3 sleepers: 10 streamers to target
Through the first two weeks of the season, most fantasy football managers didn't need to look for sleepers by dipping into the streaming pool. Outside of the San Francisco 49ers, most primary players were healthy. They may not have been performing as hoped, but they were active, and it was still too early to give up on them.
That changed after Week 2. The injury list grew to include at least three quarterbacks, possibly four, two starting running backs and a wide receiver. Several other wideouts are also questionable heading into Week 3.
Not everyone is blessed with a deep bench, so here are 10 streamers* to target for Week 3.
*Streamers are players who are rostered in 50% or less of Yahoo! leagues.
Fantasy football streamers for Week 3Quarterbacks
Quarterback streamers are in high demand this week with so many injuries. One player not eligible for this article because of roster percentage: Daniel Jones, rostered in 65% of leagues. If he's out there, take a look.
Jake Browning, Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow managers are reeling from the loss of their quarterback, but they might not need to look very far for their replacement. In 2023 when Browning stepped in from Week 11 on, he finished as a QB1 in five of his seven starts. The only two he didn't were against the Steelers, one of the better defenses in the league.
This week the Bengals face the Vikings. On paper, Minnesota looks like it has an elite pass defense, ranking 26th in points allowed to quarterbacks. But that includes Week 2, when the Falcons abandoned the pass in the second half, leading Michael Penix Jr. to throw only 21 times. In Week 1, Caleb Williams was having his way with the Vikings before struggling with accuracy in the second half.
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
If you read this piece last week, Lawrence was also a recommendation. He delivered with 21.2 points.
Still available in half of leagues, Lawrence remains a strong streamer against the Texans. It's not as favorable a matchup as last week, but it's still exploitable, especially if he and Brian Thomas Jr. can get on track.
Running backs
The running back streaming options are not ideal. You could take your chances with Chris Rodriguez or Jeremy McNichols from Washington, but there is no telling what the workload split will be there.
Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
White is clearly the No. 2 option in this backfield, seeing only 29% of snaps. What is promising is that his carries increased from two in Week 1 to 10 in Week 2, and he handled the goal-line work, converting for a score.
The Jets are thought of as a top run defense, but they might not be anymore. James Cook just rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown against them.
Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons
Allgeier is looking like he is getting the type of involvement he had in 2023, when he carried the ball 186 times despite Bijan Robinson being in the backfield.
It will take favorable game scripts for him to get his carries, but this week against Carolina could be one of those opportunities.
Wide receivers
Wide receiver streamers are not in high demand, yet. However, Brian Thomas Jr., Josh Downs, Ladd McConkey and Emeka Egbuka are all on the injury report this week, so things can change quickly.
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Doubs should be in line for a big target increase following the Jayden Reed injury. Matt LeFleur likes to find ways to keep things spread out among his wide receivers, but Doubs should be the clear leader moving forward, starting this week.
Hunter Renfrow, Carolina Panthers
Coming off a seven-catch, two-touchdown game, it's surprising to see Renfrow rostered in just 5% of leagues.
The Panthers offense isn't great, but a player seeing that level of targets, especially in the red zone, deserves attention. Expect another heavy workload with defenses focusing on Tetairoa McMillan and Carolina likely trailing in this game.
Elic Ayomanor, Tennessee Titans
Ayomanor has looked solid with six and seven targets in his first two games. Last week he caught four passes, including a touchdown.
It may not be consistent as rookie Cam Ward is still figuring things out, but the target volume is what makes him valuable as a streamer.
Sterling Shepard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This one comes with an asterisk. Only use if Emeke Egbuka is out this week.
If Egbuka is out, Shepard becomes the No. 2 receiver for the Bucs, which is a valuable position to play. Even as the No. 3 receiver, he has played just 89 of 128 offensive snaps (70%) this season but has already drawn 10 targets. If he gets Egbuka-level snap share, 93%, he could be in line for a strong game.
Tight ends
With George Kittle still out and stars such as Mark Andrews and T.J. Hockenson struggling, some of you may be looking for another option.
Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland Browns
Week 2 wasn't as strong as his debut, but Fannin still caught all five targets for 48 yards.
The matchup against Green Bay looks difficult overall, but the Packers have struggled against tight ends, allowing the fifth-most points to the position.
Defense
Drafting and using the same defense each week is risky. Ask those who drafted the Baltimore Ravens and decided to use them Week 1. Here is a great streaming option for this week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers host the Jets, who will be without Justin Fields. Tyrod Taylor is a capable veteran, but he's still a backup for a reason.
Tampa ranks as the second-best defense on the Defense Stream-O-Matic tool over on Fantasy Six Pack this week, due to matchup and their ability to put pressure on the quarterback.
