Memphis football had its fun after securing an upset win over SEC foe Arkansas at home on Sept. 20, especially as the Razorbacks blew an almost surefire win late in the fourth quarter.
Arkansas had the ball inside the Tigers' 15-yard line with under two minutes left while trailing 32-31. However, Mike Washington Jr. fumbled on a run, giving Memphis back the ball. Arkansas, which had all three timeouts remaining, nearly stopped Memphis on third-and-8 deep inside Tigers territory, before quarterback Brandon Lewis powered through would-be tackles for the first down in a huge spot.

It was a valiant comeback for Memphis, as the Tigers overcame an 18-point deficit in the upset win.
What followed were mocking "SEC! SEC!" chants from Memphis' home crowd toward the Razorbacks, who made a two-for-one scheduling agreement with Memphis in 2019. Multiple Memphis players also dropped to the ground in joy after securing the victory.
There was also a slight field rush, with some fans running onto the field following the win. (It remains to be seen whether the American Conference will penalize the Tigers, as there might not have been enough fans on the field to constitute a fine).
Memphis improved to 4-0 with the win, and looks like one of the top non-Power Four contenders for a College Football Playoff bid in 2025. The schedule won't be easy, as there are plenty of American Conference contenders looking for a CFP spot this season.
Memphis has now won four consecutive home games against SEC teams, with its previous SEC wins coming against Mississippi State in 2021 and Ole Miss in 2019 and 2015.
Perhaps SEC teams might think twice about scheduling the Tigers in upcoming years.
