Terry McLaurin became one of the latest hold-in success stories late this offseason.

The Washington Commanders' top wideout attended his team's training camp but refused to practice until receiving a new contract. Eventually, he and the Commanders agreed to terms on a contract extension through 2028.

McLaurin, who was set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, joined the Commanders as a third-round pick in 2019. Since then, six seasons later, he's led the team in receiving yards each year, including five straight 1,000-yard seasons.

In 2024, McLaurin's first year paired with quarterback Jayden Daniels, he scored a career-high 13 touchdowns and earned his second Pro Bowl appearance and first All-Pro nomination as part of its second team.

Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys (2025) — Parsons, a perennial Pro Bowl pass rusher, requested a trade on Aug. 1 amid stagnant contract negotiations with the Cowboys. On Aug. 28, Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers.

In late August, McLaurin was rewarded for his contributions to the Commanders' offense over the years with a new deal.

Here's how the details shake out:

TERRY MCLAURIN: Commanders star WR gives ringing endorsement of hoodies ... and his quarterback

Terry McLaurin contract details -

Length: Three years – beginning after the 2025 season

Value: $97 million

AAV: $32.3 million

McLaurin's three-year, $97 million extension includes a $30 million signing bonus, pro-rated over the next four years, and $44.65 million in guaranteed money.

The guaranteed money is all front-loaded – it's McLaurin's 2025 salary, plus the signing bonus, plus nearly $13 million coming in 2026, according to Spotrac – meaning the Commanders have a potential out in his deal after 2026.

If Washington decides to cut McLaurin after 2026, it would need to eat $18 million in dead cap. Otherwise, the wideout's cap hit jumps from $18.35 million in 2026 to $34 million in 2027, barring a (likely) restructure.

Regardless, the average annual value (AAV) on McLaurin's new extension makes him the sixth-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
