The Coast Guard rescued four girls ages 8 to 14 stranded on a rock near Black Beach Trailhead in Minnesota.

Footage shows the U.S. Coast Guard saving four young girls stranded on a small island near Lake Superior in Minnesota over the weekend.

Coast Guard members were captured in the video hoisting the children to safety after the Lake County Sheriff's Office stated that it received a call from one of the girls' parents just after 8 p.m. local time on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The group, ages 8 to 14, was paddleboarding from Black Beach Trailhead in Silver Bay and "lost their paddles" in the process, officials said in a news release.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office traveled to the small island in a former USCG watercraft, where they were able to communicate with the girls.

The sheriff's office said it reached out to the Minnesota Air Rescue Team for help, but they couldn't assist due to weather conditions.

However, the USCG was able to respond via helicopter departing from Traverse City, Michigan. The rescue took a few hours.

"Lake County Rescue was able to set up a rope relay with the juveniles from the larger island to the smaller island," the news release said. "This allowed Rescue members to transfer blankets and food to the juveniles as they were only wearing swimsuits and concerns were growing of them getting cold."

The helicopter made it to the scene around 1 a.m. local time, and the girls were transported from the island to a landing zone and reunited with their parents on shore, according to the sheriff's office.
