Rich Eisen remembered his former SportsCenter co-host, the late Stuart Scott
In Eisen's return to the show on Aug. 18, the broadcaster looked back on Scott's impact on SportsCenter

Rich Eisen is looking back on his days at SportsCenter — and paying homage to his former co-host Stuart Scott.
Eisen returned to ESPN's flagship program on Monday, Aug. 18, for the first time in more than two decades. The broadcaster became emotional while discussing Scott, who died in January 2015 from appendiceal cancer. He was 49.
"It has been a blast being here tonight, but listen, we all know there should be someone else right here in this chair next to me," Eisen, 56, said.
He continued, "Right there, as he was for my seven years in the role. He referred to me as his TV wife, and that's my dear late friend Stuart Scott who is indeed looking over my shoulder tonight."

Eisen then reflected on how the sports world has changed since his good friend's death.
"I frequently think of Stuart a lot and what he might think of the sports headlines today," Eisen said. "Like, say, Bill Belichick being the head football coach at his beloved school."
He added, "We used to host SportsCenters after LeBron's high school games. So what would Stuart think of James still playing at age 40 with 40,000 points? And with all these new crossing of sports TV streams like, say, ESPN buying NFL Network and partnering up with my daily show."

The Rich Eisen Show host further ventured: "What would it look like if Stuart sat in with, say, Ernie, Shaq, Kenny and Charles when Inside the NBA comes here to ESPN this fall? I could go on and on because I miss Stuart so very much."
Eisen and Scott hosted SportsCenter from 1996-2003, where the pair drew a cult following for their chemistry and humor.
From Scott's iconic "boo-yah!" call to Eisen's impressions, the tandem turned the sports highlight show into must-watch TV for sports fans.

Eisen's SportsCenter appearance came ahead of the Sept. 2 debut of The Rich Eisen Show on Disney and ESPN platforms.
On Monday, he couldn't help but acknowledge Scott's impact on his career.
"He should be in that chair with me, with us tonight," Eisen said.
