A person shared on Reddit that the DJ quit in the middle of their cousin's wedding reception after a guest "kept harassing" the DJ about the playlist
"DJ apparently had enough, shut his laptop, and walked out," the Redditor recalled
According to the post, things then "went downhill fast"
A wedding reception "went downhill fast" after the DJ abruptly quit and walked out, according to a guest.
The guest recounted the incident in a post on Reddit's "Wedding Drama" forum, beginning by explaining that it was their cousin's wedding and that the event "started off really nice."
"Ceremony was sweet, everyone tearing up, the whole deal. Reception started out fine too… until the DJ literally packed up and left halfway through dinner," the OP (original poster) wrote.
The OP claimed that the groom's uncle "kept harassing" the DJ about playing "real music" (aka old country songs no one else wanted)."

"DJ apparently had enough, shut his laptop, and walked out," the OP recalled, adding that everyone then went into "panic mode."
Trying to salvage the situation, the maid of honor hooked her phone up to the speakers to play music. But then, the OP said, the best man started taking song requests, which turned out to be "a big mistake."
"Somehow, a breakup song tied to the groom's ex ended up blasting through the hall. Bride stormed out crying, groom followed, and the family immediately split into two camps: Team 'DJ was right' vs. Team 'unprofessional,' " the OP wrote.

When the bride and groom later returned to their reception, "the vibe was done," according to the Redditor.
"Half the guests were arguing, the playlist was a mess, and the bride's mom was sobbing in the corner," the OP recounted. "They ended up leaving early."
Reacting to the story in the comments section, readers weighed in on whether the DJ was justified in leaving or acted unprofessionally.
"I think both can be true," one person wrote. "DJ was unprofessional and he had enough. If the uncle wouldn't get out of his face and there was no security to help, I'd leave too. Professionals are people too and don't deserve to be treated poorly."
"The music shuffle on the phone just sounds like an unfortunate mishap that wasn't anyone's fault, unless the person knew what they were doing," the same person added, referring to the "breakup" song.

Another commenter insisted the DJ was in the wrong, writing, "The DJ was highly unprofessional. He should have spoken to the groom about the uncle, who was probably drunk. He shouldn't have let one person who hadn't paid him ruin everything."
Someone else, however, argued, "Definitely the fault of the groom's family for not keeping the uncle on a short leash," while another person chimed in, "The groom's uncle should've been corralled and talked to or told 'no.' "
