Ethan Peck, who has portrayed Mr. Spock in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is opening up about the future of his iconic character.

In an August 2025 interview with TV Insider, Peck referenced that there's been talk of a possible Star Trek: Strange New Worlds spinoff, titled Star Trek: Year One, focused on James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) becoming captain of the USS Enterprise. Peck said he would be interested in filming as Spock for the potential show.

"I think it would be really wonderful. I will stay playing this character for as long as I'm invited, for the most part, because I just think it's such an amazing thing to be a part of. The messaging is so incredible, and this character has so much integrity. He's such a noble person, so I love portraying him," said Peck to the publication.

Akiva Goldsman Spoke About the Possible Spin-Off

In a September 2025 interview with TV Insider, one of the executive producers of Star Trek: Strange New World, Akiva Goldsman, commented on whether fans can expect Year One to make it to air. He referenced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is ending after its 5th season. He also hinted that he wasn't sure about the possible spinoff because of Paramount Plus's recent merger with Skydance Media.

"Honestly, I think we have no idea, in fairness. I mean, I think that clearly we would be thrilled to do it, and ultimately, we are renting, we don't own," said Goldsman to the publication. "And so it's the people who own the building, which is now, it's different landlords, so we'll see what they think, and if so, great, but we're building out our show to end to really, we're completing our five-year mission after Season 5. And then if there's more to do, serendipity, but if not, we're going to make sure that we did it as well as we knew how and closed it out as elegantly and correctly as we believe we can."

Ethan Peck Discussed Spock's Dynamic With Captain Kirk

In Star Trek: The Original Series, which aired from 1966 to 1969, Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) have an established bond. In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is a prequel to Star Trek: TOS, Kirk and Spock are just beginning their friendship, particularly in the show's most recent third season.

In a September 2025 interview with Men's Journal, Peck shared how his dynamic with Wesley mirrors Spock's relationship with Kirk.

"Paul and I get along famously. The phrase I like to use when talking about Kirk and Spock's onscreen chemistry is: They fall in love at first sight; platonic love at first sight," said Peck to the publication. "It was nice in Episode 6 of this season, you see Spock plant a kind of seed of leadership in Kirk. Captain Pike (Anson Mount) is like Spock's uncle. Kirk is much more like an equal, much more brotherly. And that also exists with Paul and me off-camera."

While speaking to Men's Journal, Peck also shared what he hoped fans have gotten out of his portrayal of Spock.

"I really hope that I've furthered him as this curious person who has these incredibly high standards for himself," said Peck to the publication. "And yes, I think in the Western world, men are taught to withhold their feelings and not be emotional. And I think that occurs to the detriment of the experience of life. We did see Spock grow a lot with these romantic relationships, and I think it's a major mistake not to develop your emotions and live in your feelings."
