A bride chose a low back dress for her upcoming nupitals, and her sister is now threatening to drop out of the wedding party if she doesn't "tone down" the "too revealing" gown

The bride's sister, who is described as "insecure," asked her to choose something less "attention-grabbing" so that she's not "overshadowed in the photos"

Redditors commented that the bride's sister should not be trying to steal "the spotlight," and sided with the bride's decision to not alter the wedding dress

A woman is threatening to drop out of her sister's wedding party because the bride refuses to "tone down" her dress.

In a post on Reddit's "Am I the Jerk" forum, the bride, 27, asked users whether or not she was in the wrong for "refusing to alter" her wedding dress at the request of her "insecure" sister, 25, who "doesn't want to be overshadowed in the photos."

"I told her gently that the wedding dress is about me, not her, and I'm not changing it," the bride said. "She cried and said I'm prioritizing 'vanity' over her feelings."

"Now she's threatening not to be in the bridal party," she added.

The bride explained that her younger sister, who is her maid of honor, has "been struggling with body image" lately. While she's tried to be "nothing but supportive," she draws the line at her sister projecting her physical insecurities onto her on her wedding day next spring.

The sisters began to butt heads after the bride shared photos of her wedding dress a week prior. "When I showed her, she went quiet and then said it was 'too revealing' (it has a low back)," the woman wrote of her sibling's reaction to the gown. "She asked if I would pick something less 'attention-grabbing.' "

While the bride is standing firm with her decision to not alter her dress because she believes the focus of her celebration and photos should be on her, not everyone agrees with her choice. Their mother has asked her to compromise "for peace."

Reddit users in the comments section mostly sided with the bride.

"NTA (Not The A------). She's SUPPOSED to be overshadowed in the pictures," the commenter posted. "She's not the main character — you are. You are not the one that should compromise 'for peace.' She needs to grow up and peace will follow. Your mom needs to stop catering to her and realize this day is about YOU."

Some Redditors said that the bride's sister, especially as her maid of honor, should be focused on uplifting her and not trying to steal "the spotlight." So, they argued it wouldn't be so bad if she followed through with her threat of leaving the wedding party.

"If she can't handle being in the background, maybe she needs a new title or just attend as a guest," one person wrote, with another adding, "Her job is to make the bride's day easier, less stressful for Pete's sake."

Several individuals commented that the mother was a major part of the problem. They argued it sounded like she'd rather have "quiet" than to address her youngest daughter's "toxic" and "unfair" behavior. By not confronting it, she's "enabling it."
