<p>Night six of America's Got Talent Season 20 auditions saw another influx of new and entertaining acts for judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara to watch and rate.</p>
<p>One act that has been 10 years in the making was the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir, which captivated the judges.</p>
<p>"This is our big moment," Ahkeem Lee, the director of the choir told his assembled singers. "Thank you all for your dedication. We are going to go out there and put Birmingham, AL on the map."</p>

<p>And that's just what they did, winning Simon's Golden Buzzer. But in addition to filling the auditorium with joyful music, Ahkeem gave America a little bit of a history lesson.</p>
<p>"When I was 18 years old, I started this choir," he told Simon. "It was supposed to be fun. We wanted to get together to do a school supply concert and benefit the children in the community, but after the concert was over, we had so many youths walk up and say, 'How do I join this choir,' that I had to keep it going."</p>
<p>And 10 years later, they are on the America's Got Talent stage.</p>

<p>"We come from a city that is often criticized and often put last on a list of cities in America, but Birmingham has such a rich history," Ahkeem continued. "For me, I grew up at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church. A lot of people may know that church because in 1963, a tragic bombing happened there, and four little girls were killed. While that bombing was such a tragic situation, it played such an instrumental role in bringing international attention to the Civil Rights Movement in America and Birmingham particularly. Now, 60-some years later, the choir exists, so we wanted to show that Birmingham, AL, has some talented people and we want to do something great for the community."</p>

<p>The choir's performance of "Joy" lifted the spirits of the audience and the judges so much so that they were rewarded.</p>
<p>"That was big," Simon said. "I could see and hear how much work went into this. Every single one of you played the perfect part. We had lead vocals, we had emotion, and I'm so honored you came here on our 20th anniversary, and, in return, I want to give you something."</p>
<p>Simon hit the Golden Buzzer sending the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir straight through to the Live Shows.</p>
<p>Backstage, Simon told the choir, "This is just the beginning. You're big, now it's going to get bigger."</p>
<p>America's Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Streams next day on Peacock.</p>
