When hospital staff handed 5-year-old Grant Lawson a custom "Thor" action figure, it wasn't just a toy — it was a reflection of his own strength.
Grant was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer that often requires chemotherapy and radiation. It's a tough battle, but Grant continues to fight hard.
Inspired by his bravery, Children's Nebraska pediatric hospital created a "Thor"-inspired action figure using 3D scans of Grant's face.
See Grant's reaction to his custom "Thor" inspired action figure below.
Hospital staff said they hoped the gift would "cheer him up amid hospital visits and serve as a symbol of the superhero strength he's shown in his fight against cancer."
Multiple departments in the hospital collaborated to create the toy, and it was all worth it when Grant finally saw his strength personified in his own action figure.
He is starting kindergarten soon and has moved into the "long-term maintenance" phase of treatment.
With his action figure on the shelf and a hammer in hand, Grant proves that real superheroes do live among us.
