Season 9 will be the series' first outing without Peter Krause's Bobby Nash.
The ninth season premieres on ABC on Oct. 9, 2025.
9-1-1 fans were ready to call the real 911 amid the shock of losing Bobby Nash, the Station 118 captain played by Peter Krause, who bit the dust last season.
The fanbase persevered, of course, as did the rest of the 118, but it's fair to say the long-running action drama will feel different heading into its ninth season. The season 8 finale saw Bobby's family, friends, and colleagues healing in the aftermath, but the impact of his passing will no doubt color the catastrophes awaiting our heroes.
So, what does await them? Here's everything we know about 9-1-1 season 9, including its release date.
Will there be a 9-1-1 season 9?
Fox
Peter Krause as Bobby Nash on '9-1-1'
Yes, there will be a season 9 of 9-1-1.
Following Bobby's passing in season 8, episode 15, the show was watched by more than 9 million viewers, according to data shared by ABC. Clearly, fans are invested in the drama, so it's no surprise that the network greenlit a new season.
How did 9-1-1 season 8 end?

Angela Bassett as Athena in the '9-1-1' season 8 finale
9-1-1's season 8 finale unfolded against the collapse of a high-rise apartment complex that left several residents trapped beneath debris and, in some cases, impaled by rebar.
While the 118 came together to save the survivors, the scars of Bobby's passing lingered, as did the uncertain future of the captain-less team. This was particularly present in the dynamic between Bobby's widow, Athena (Angela Bassett), and Chim (Kenneth Choi), who's alive because of Bobby's sacrifice.
The pair was forced to overcome the ample tension brewing between them during the collapse, and their combined efforts to save others helped them discover a renewed sense of appreciation for each other.
Elsewhere, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) decided to move back to Los Angeles and stick with the 118 after relocating to Texas to be closer to his son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh). Even better? Christopher came with him.
Though season 8 ended without appointing a new captain for the 118, it did introduce a new character in Chim and Maddie's (Jennifer Love Hewitt) newly-born son, whom they named Bobby Nash Han.

Anirudh Pisharody, Aisha Hinds, and Kenneth Choi in the '9-1-1' season 9 premiere
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in August 2025, showrunner Tim Minear said season 9 will find each of the characters "trying to find their equilibrium."
"It's not like we come into season 9 and everything's back on reset," he said. "That's not the case at all. It hasn't been that long, and people are still grappling with it in their own ways."
That said, Minear clarified that the upcoming episodes wouldn't constitute a "Season of Perpetual Mourning," but rather a "Season of Perpetual Grappling."
What does mean? Minear explained, "When one piece as pivotal as Bobby is taken away, everything shifts: partnerships change, roles change, and people have to discover something within themselves that maybe they didn't know they had. And that really is a major theme of the first part of the season."
Minear also confirmed to EW that, after his stirring speech in the season 8 finale, Chim will be the 118's acting captain at the beginning of season 9. "But nothing is in stone. It's not a fait accompli as we start," he asserted. "Heavy is the head that wears the captain's helmet, and it's not an easy journey for any of [the 118.]"
And, of course, plenty of calamities await our heroes. One, Minear teased, would involve a "Musk-ish, Bezos-ish billionaire who was swallowed by a whale."
Is there a 9-1-1 season 9 trailer?
Yes, and it's nutty enough to trigger lots of raised eyebrows on social media.
In the 30-second teaser for season 9, we see Chim, Eddie, Maddie, and Buck (Oliver Stark) staring in awe at a sky streaked with falling meteors. "What the heck is that?" asks Buck.
Are the meteors real? Or perhaps a metaphor? One that represents the feeling of world-ending doom they experienced after losing Bobby?
Knowing this show, they're probably real. Fingers crossed that they crash with some kind of extraterrestrial parasite attached to them. 9-1-1 is due for its sci-fi era.
Who's in the 9-1-1 season 9 cast?

Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, and Ryan Guzman on '9-1-1'
9-1-1 will return with the usual suspects, including Bassett, Stark, Choi, Hewitt, and Guzman, as well as Aisha Hinds' Hen Wilson.
Season 9 will also promote two supporting characters to regulars: Corinne Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper, who play Athena's daughter, May, and son, Harry. "I'm really excited to explore Athena's relationship to them," Minear told EW.
You can also expect some surprising guest stars. Remember the "Musk-ish, Bezo-ish billionaire" that gets swallowed by a whale? He'll be played by Mark Consuelos from Live With Kelly and Mark.
