Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have announced their separation after 20 years of marriage, but long before the couple married in June 2006, Kidman, 58, found herself in the midst of another highly publicized split from ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
On Christmas Eve 1990, Kidman and Cruise tied the knot, and the pair welcomed their daughter, BellaCruise, in December 1992 and their son, ConnorCruise in January 1995. Both Kidman and Cruise appeared to be on top of the world, so fans were shocked when the couple separated in 2000, finalizing their divorce not long after.
In the aftermath of Kidman's split from the 57 year-old country music star, which was confirmed by PEOPLE on Monday, September 29, a rare and candid interview Kidman gave has resurfaced, shining a light on how she felt entering into a new relationship with Urban on the heels of her first marriage.
"Maybe I've gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I'm always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way," she told Harper's BAZAAR. "I'm wary at times, and I've been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shutdown approach. My husband, Keith, says that when he met me, he said, 'How's your heart?' And I apparently responded, 'Open.'"

Kidman went on to share that at first, she didn't believe Urban would be interested in her, but the joke was on her. A year after the pair first starting talking by phone, they were married in Sydney.
"We're always working through stuff, but it's very much love based, so there's an enormous amount of give and take," said Kidman. "I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way."
Kidman and Urban share two children together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. A source close to the actor shared with PEOPLE that Kidman's sister, Antonia, has been "a rock" to Kidman throughout this difficult time, and added that "She didn't want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage."
