Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward is no longer facing the felony domestic violence charge he was arrested on in June after a Montgomery County (Texas) grand jury declined to indict him, according to multiplereportsThursday.
"I can finally move forward," Ward told KPRC-TV after his case was no billed, in other words the grand jury didn't find probable cause that Ward committed the crimes a woman alleged he was responsible for in the June 12 incident at his home in Magnolia.
"Today, we presented our grand jury packet and evidence to the grand jury to show Mr. Ward was factually innocent of the allegations against him," Ward's attorney, Steve Jackson, said in a statement, via the Houston Chronicle. "The district attorney also provided information to the grand jury, that we believe, assisted the grand jury in coming to the conclusion that Mr. Ward should be no billed.
"We believe not only was he exonerated by the grand jury but that the actions of the grand jury show that Jimmie was factually innocent."

Although Ward, a 34-year-old two-time Texans captain, has remained on Houston's roster while working his way back to full strength from the sprained foot he suffered in December last season — an injury that required season-ending surgery — he's still on the NFL's commissioner exempt list while the league finishes a separate investigation into the allegations.
"We continue to monitor all developments in the matter, which remains under review," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to KPRC-TV.
While on the exempt list, Ward is on paid leave. He cannot practice or attend games with the Texans, though he can be at the team facility for other reasons, like team meetings and individual workouts.
Last month, the woman who alleged Ward assaulted her filed a civil lawsuit in Harris County (Texas) District Court, reportedly seeking $20 million in damages.
In the suit, she alleges that she was "violently assaulted multiple times, both sexually and physically," including in the presence of their 3-year-old child. She also accused Ward of drug use, emotional abuse, financial manipulation and death threats, according to ESPN's Aug. 21 report.
After Ward's initial arrest, he violated his bond agreement twice, according to the suit: first when he contacted the woman and then again when he tested positive for alcohol, per ESPN's Aug. 21 report. The second violation resulted in another arrest of Ward, that one occurring on Aug. 7.
Even though Ward's criminal case was dismissed, the civil lawsuit against him is reportedly still active.
