Prince Andrew was spotted making a visit to Windsor Castle over the weekend amid controversy over a new bombshell biography about him and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

The Duke of York, 65, stepped out on Sunday, Aug. 10, after lying low at his home, the Royal Lodge, over the last week. Photos showed him behind the steering wheel of a car, reportedly driving to Windsor Castle.

On Aug. 1, the Daily Mail published excerpts from the new book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by author Andrew Lownie. A summary on the Harper Collins website says it tells the story of "a spoilt prince unable to connect and a duchess pushed by her insecurities into a desperate need to maintain the attention her 'royal' status brought."

The Daily Mail's previews included unflattering details about Prince Andrew's portrayal in the book, detailing allegations about a violent altercation he had with Prince Harry — purportedly over comments made about his wife, Meghan Markle — as well as claims about the disgraced royal's lurid behavior with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

King Charles' younger brother took a major step back from his duties as a working royal in November 2019, following a scrutinized interview with BBC's Newsnight about his alleged ties to Epstein.

Then, in January 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her son of his military titles and patronages after he attempted to have Virginia Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. The Duke of York has denied any wrongdoing and in February 2022, settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Since then, he has lived a quiet life, kept out of the spotlight against his wishes, Lownie claimed in a new interview with Sky News.

"I don't think he has any public future. I would say his private future is pretty limited, too," the author noted. "I mean, he lives in Royal Lodge [on the Windsor Estate], he plays golf, watches TV and presumably sees his grandchildren... He's living the life of a retired man."

Lownie continued, "What most annoys him is his lack of a royal status. That's what really sort of gave him his whole sense of identity. And that's, you know, it's not being able to put on his uniforms and strut around and being self-important."

Buckingham Palace has made no comment on Lownie's allegations or his forthcoming book. However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry denied the allegations made in the book excerpts.

"Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry," the spokesperson told PEOPLE last week.

Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York will be published on Aug. 14 and purports to "expose the secrets and scandals behind [Andrew and Fergie's] extravagant lives and troubled marriage."

Despite the fact that they officially divorced in May 1996, the Duke and Duchess of York, both 65, have continued to maintain a home together at the Royal Lodge since 2004, and Sarah has stood by her ex's side throughout his fall from grace.

She even defended him in a March 2023 interview on Good Morning America, expressing how it was "really difficult" to see him struggle with the loss of his royal identity.

"We've been there for each other — you know, when I've gone through really bad times in the past, Andrew's always been there," she said.

"He is exceptionally kind, and he is a very, seriously good grandfather. He's very steadfast for the girls," Sarah continued, referencing their daughters Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35. "We are women that also have had to see the demise of a very strong man, and that has been really difficult to see."
