A bridesmaid forgot her dress at home and ended up staying in her jeans and hoodie for the wedding and group photos

The bride thinks she intentionally forgot her dress because she had been "complaining about it for weeks"

"Now, the photos look like a 'Where's Waldo' situation with one person sticking out like crazy," one of the other bridesmaids wrote as she shared the story on Reddit

A bridesmaid forgot to bring her dress to the wedding — and the bride thinks it was intentional.

One of the other bridesmaids shared the story in a post on Reddit's "Wedding Drama" forum, beginning by explaining that the bridesmaids all got their dresses months ago, did their fittings and sent photos of themselves in a group chat.

According to the OP (original poster), one bridesmaid showed up to the venue on the day of the wedding wearing a hoodie and a pair of jeans. "She laughs and says [to the bride], 'You're gonna kill me… I forgot my dress at home,' " she recalled.

Since the bridesmaid lives 45 minutes away from the venue and the ceremony wasn't expected to start for two hours, the bride told her to "go grab it." Instead, the bridesmaid said, "Nah, it's fine, I'll just sit out of the pictures," leaving everyone "confused."

"Because… why? There's plenty of time for her to go back. She has her car," the OP noted.

Then, the OP was surprised when the bride pulled her aside and told her that the bridesmaid "had been complaining for weeks about hating how the dress looked on her." The bride seemed to imply that she suspected the bridesmaid left her dress at home on purpose.

In the end, the bridesmaid stayed in her casual clothes, even as she posed for group photos.

"Bride smiled through it, but you could tell she was hurt. Now, the photos look like a 'Where's Waldo' situation with one person sticking out like crazy," the OP wrote.

As for the OP, she said she "can't tell if this was petty sabotage or genuine forgetfulness — but either way, yikes."

In the comments section, readers agreed that the bride should have "cut [the bridesmaid] out of the bridal party" as soon as she refused to go retrieve her dress.

"[It] would have been a lot better if the bridesmaid had simply dropped out prior to the day of," one person pointed out before sharing a personal anecdote about how she wore a dress in a color she hated and that was a size too small, all for the sake of being a supportive bridesmaid.

"The point of that whole story is 'just wear the dress' — it's one day," she wrote. "Actually, it's not even a whole day, and it's not your day, so what if you feel the dress isn't flattering. In that case, you bring another dress code-approved outfit and once photos, dinner, speeches and special dances are through, you quietly change into your backup outfit to dance the night away."

The same commenter added: "Note: no jeans and hoodies, sweats or tracksuits, sneakers or flip-flops!!!"

Another reader wondered why the bride even allowed the bridesmaid to pose in the photos.

"Those are forever going to be a reminder she ruined the big day," they said.
